Did you know… “Funkytown” was made by Lipps Inc., a group of Minneapolis musicians, in January of 1980. Many consider “Funkytown” the last major success in the disco genre.

Did you know… The complete title of “Sing, Sing, Sing” is “Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing).” It was written by Louis Prima in 1936 and made famous by clarinetist and bandleader Benny Goodman. The tune became familiar to a new generation when Chips Ahoy made “Sing, Sing, Sing” their theme in the 1990s.

What a great year! : 

The Concert Band received unanimous superior ratings at Large Group Contest for the FIFTH year in a row! This year we competed in Category I, the most difficult level. Our Category I selection, “Abram’s Pursuit” will be performed one final time at Graduation on May 30. What a great year!

Did you know… : 

Did you know… You shouldn’t clap between movements of a large orchestral work. “Video Games Live” is played in three movements. Please refrain from clapping after the first and second movement, but PLEASE clap at the conclusion of the third movement!

Sen. Al Franken visited Pine City Elementary last month and played cowbell with the Fifth Grade Band. After video of the performance appeared online, news outlets picked up on the story, and the YouTube video received over 8,000 hits in 24 hours. Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre : 

Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre Pine City will be having a Junior High Musical again this summer! Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre will be presenting “Pinocchio,” and students who are completing grades 6, 7, and 8 are encouraged to sign up to be in this amazing musical! The rehearsals and performances will be July 6-10.

The Elementary Band and Choir Concert is tomorrow night! Right here at 7:00pm. The Blackboard Review is just around the corner! Saturday, May 15 at 4:30 and 8:00pm. Upcoming Events

Several generous individuals have donated music this year. “Funkytown,” “Anchors Aweigh,” and “Everything” were purchased by our supporters. Many individuals also donated instruments during our “Play It Forward” campaign in April. THANK YOU!
