Premium member Presentation Transcript The Sanctity of Human Life : The Sanctity of Human Life What can we do to preserve it? Anniversary of Roe Vs. Wade : Anniversary of Roe Vs. Wade Tomorrow, January 22, 2009 marks the 36th anniversary of the very controversial case of Rose Vs. Wade. Roe v. Wade is the historic Supreme Court decision overturning a Texas interpretation of abortion law and making abortion legal in the United States. The Roe v. Wade decision held that a woman, with her doctor, could choose abortion in earlier months of pregnancy without restriction, and with restrictions in later months, based on the right to privacy. Since 1973… : Since 1973… and the beginning of Roe v. Wade over 49 million babies have been aborted. Slide 4: These babies could have been doctors lawyers, teachers, athletes, or even a President. Slide 5: Some restrictions have been placed on the act of abortion: Parental Consent/parental notification – begun in 1976 but finally reaffirmed in 1992. Counseling for pregnant women and a waiting period before the abortion. The Hyde Amendment prohibits federal Medicaid to fund abortions (though it has been amended to exclude rape, incest, or life endangerment). Ban on Partial Birth Abortion Some states restrict abortions past a certain trimester Freedom of Choice Act : Freedom of Choice Act Slide 7: If signed…. Slide 9: Require taxpayers to pay for abortions Slide 10: Require states to allow partial birth abortion and other late term abortions. Slide 11: Require states to allow abortions by non-physicians. Slide 12: Bar laws protecting a right of conscientious objection to abortion. Slide 13: Deny parents an opportunity to be involved in their minor daughter’s abortion decision. Slide 16: Ten Commandments: Thou shall not kill. “The Catholic Church has always condemned abortion as a grave evil. “ CCC 2270 Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person -- among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life. Slide 17: We are all made in the image and likeness of God. On the last day of creation, God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness” (Genesis 1:26). So what Can U do? : So what Can U do? You Can Choose To Protect Life !!! : You Can Choose To Protect Life !!! The most important thing that you can do is to become personally involved. Unless you do, nothing will change. By respecting all human life from conception to natural death. Write letters to government officials. Be a responsible, faithful citizen. Vote when you are of age and vote according to the teachings of our faith! Pray as if everything depends upon your prayers, for it just might be so Slide 20: This Saturday, those who will be attending the Texas Rally for Life in Austin, TX will be saying: “I believe that all life is precious, even the life that has not been born” Slide 21: Here is how we said it at last year’s rally…. Touch with pity the hearts of those women, pregnant in our world today, who are not thinking of motherhood. Closing Prayer Slide 33: Help them to see that the child they carry is made in Your image - as well as theirs - made for eternal life. Dispel their fear and selfishness and give them true womanly hearts to love their babies and give them birth and all the needed care that a mother can give.
