WATER POLLUTION:

BY TEAM FAST AND CURIOUS WATER POLLUTION

Slide 2:

AIR POLLUTION WATER POLLUTION LAND POLLUTION NOISE POLLUTION POLLUTION RADIOACTIVE POLLUTION DEFINATION the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment

Slide 3:

WATER POLLUTION DEFINATION The introduction of harmful substances such as chemicals in the water bodies is known as water pollution EFFECTS CAUSES PREVENTION AGRICULTURAL WASTE DOMESTIC WASTE INDUSTRIAL WASTE

AGRICULTURAL WASTE:

AGRICULTURAL WASTE This mainly consists of addition of excess pesticides , fertilizers used in the fields ,into the river water and ground water Because of this the nitrite, potassium ,and phosphorus content of ground &river water is increases Biological oxygen demand (BOD) increases DOMESTIC WASTE This mainly consists wastes from houses which are thrown into water. such as plastics, organic ,inorganic ,electronic wastes from houses. Because of this the inland water levels decrease ,the diseases like malaria, diarrhea ,cholera etc It also effects rain fall ,by having unseasonal rains and rain shortage

INDUSTRIAL WASTE:

INDUSTRIAL WASTE This is the largest cause of water pollution Wastes from plastic factories ,chemical plants ,oil refineries ,nuclear plants ,coal fired power plants Metal factories cause water pollution These wastes are directly thrown into ponds, lakes, rivers ,seas ,oceans These mainly consists heavy metals like lead , mercury, cadmium etc Oil spills on sea water and heated water from power plants Release of waste and harmful chemicals into the water bodies Organic wastes and radio active wastes Thermal waste

EFFECTS :

EFFECTS Increase in water borne diseases Aquatic life will be dangered. Decrease in nutrients. Eutropication & entropication. TDS increases. Because of industrial toxics the the heavy metals increase ex:Pd,Pb etc..in water Thermal pollution leads to heat up of aquatic environment Leads to disturbance of food chain Malnutration and loss of biodiversity Oxyzen level of water decreases

DISEASES:

DISEASES Some of the diseases due to water pollution are as follows Cholera Amoebiasis Typhoid Hepatitis Polio Disabilities in birth Nerves disorders and Kidney damages

PREVENTION` ` :

PREVENTION` ` WHAT GOVT IS DOING ??? The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act was enacted in 1977 to provide for the prevention and control of water pollution  It covers 200 Rivers, 60 Lakes, 5 Tanks, 3 Ponds, 3 Creeks, 13 Canals, 17 Drains and 321 Wells   Y amuna act plan (YAP). Implementation of National Lake Conservation Plan (NLCP) I ntegrated scheme of National Plan for Conservation of Aquatic Eco-systems ( NPCA ) The River Boards Act, 1956 The Maharashtra Prevention of Water Pollution Act, 1969 The Shore Nuisance (Bombay and Kolaba) Act, 1853 The Orissa River Pollution Act, 1953

PREVENTION:

PREVENTION WHAT WE CAN DO ??? 1. Sewage treatments 2. Prevent river water to get polluted 3 . Treatment of wastes before discharge 4 . Strictly follow  water laws 5 . Say no to plastics 6 . Treatment plants

PREVENTION:

PREVENTION 7. Keep the pond water clean and safe 8. Routine cleaning 9. Don’t pour insecticides in sinks and toilets 10. Self hygiene 11. Sanitation 12. Public Awareness 13. A lways REDUCE RECYCLE REUSE

NOISE POLLUTION:

NOISE POLLUTION What is noise pollution Causes Effects How to prevent

What is Noise Pollution?:

What is Noise Pollution? Noise pollution  or  noise disturbance  is the disturbing or excessive noise that may harm the activity or balance of human or animal life. The source of most outdoor noise worldwide is mainly caused by machines and transportation system, motor vehicles, aircraft, and trains . Outdoor noise is summarized by the word environmental noise.

Causes of Noise Pollution.:

Causes of Noise Pollution. Industrialization:  Most of the industries use big machines which are capable of producing large amount of noise. Apart from that, various equipment's like compressors, generators, exhaust fans, grinding mills also participate in producing big noise. Poor Urban Planning:  In most of the developing countries, poor urban planning also play a vital role. Congested houses, large families sharing small space, fight over parking, frequent fights over basic amenities leads to noise pollution which may disrupt the environment of society.

Transportation: Large number of vehicles on roads, aero planes flying over houses, underground trains produce heavy noise and people get it difficult to get accustomed to that. The high noise leads to a situation wherein a normal person lose the ability to hear properly. :

Effect of Noise Pollution on humans.:

Effect of Noise Pollution on humans. Unwanted sound (noise) can damage psychological health. Noise pollution can cause hypertension, high stress levels, tinnitus, hearing loss, sleep disturbances, and other harmful effects. Chronic exposure to noise may cause noise-induced hearing loss. Older males exposed to significant occupational noise demonstrate more significantly reduced hearing sensitivity than their non-exposed peers.

Effect of Noise Pollution on animals.:

Effect of Noise Pollution on animals. Increasing the risk of death by changing the delicate balance in predator or prey detection and avoidance Interfering the use of the sounds in communication, especially in relation to reproduction and in navigation Acoustic overexposure can lead to temporary or permanent loss of hearing. Noise pollution may have caused the death of certain species of whales that beached themselves after being exposed to the loud sound of military sonar. Fact study :The most effected community of birds is sparrow . We have lost 200,000 sparrows in the past 17 years due to noise pollution

How to prevent Noise Pollution?:

How to prevent Noise Pollution ? Roadway noises can be reduced by the use of noise barriers , limitation of vehicle speeds, alteration of roadway surface texture, limitation of heavy vehicles, use of traffic controls that smooth vehicle flow to reduce braking and acceleration, and tire design.

Slide 19:

An important factor in applying these strategies is a computer model for roadway noise, that is capable of addressing local topography, meteorology, traffic operations, and hypothetical mitigation.   Source- en.wikipedia.org

SOME PREVENTIVE METHODS:

SOME PREVENTIVE METHODS Grow more trees Reducing the public nuisance Using technology Public awareness Control your own noise Fact study :school beside kansai airport in Japan that doors and windows close automatically if airplane arrives

WHAT WE MUST DO:

WHAT WE MUST DO 1.  Turn off your electronics  2. Sound proof your space 3. Mask or cancel noise around us 4.Follow the noise pollution laws strictly 5.Take the help of the law
