How do I start with the basics?:

How do I start with the basics? Have four lines as a guideline for your letters. waistline baseline Ascending line ____________ descending line

What are the lines for?:

What are the lines for? The lines help you establish where all of your letters begin and end so your writing is not crooked or wavy. waistline baseline Ascending line ____________ descending line

What is the baseline for?:

What is the baseline for? Baseline- this is home base, the writing line, the line that all the letters sit on. waistline baseline Ascending line ____________ descending line

What is the waistline for?:

What is the waistline for? -Waistline- this line is above the baseline. The body of the lower case letters sits between the waist and base. waistline baseline Ascending line ____________ descending line

What is the descending line for?:

What is the descending line for? -Descending line- this is the line that the tails of your letters go to. waistline baseline Ascending line ____________ descending line

So how do I write the letters?:

So how do I write the letters? This is based upon the angle of how you hold the pen. For typical calligraphy strokes, you hold the pen’s tip at a 45 degree angle.

The angle of the tip changes the type of line you draw::

The angle of the tip changes the type of line you draw: This demonstrates the pen tip being completely parallel to the lines.

You will practice writing letters with calligraphy pens first (after we watch a couple of video clips).:
