A collage may sometimes include newspaper clippings , ribbons , bits of colored or handmade papers, portions of other artwork or texts, photographs and other found objects , glued to a piece of paper or canvas. The origins of collage can be traced back hundreds of years, but this technique made a dramatic reappearance in the early 20th century as an art form of novelty.

You must incorporate some typography in this collage, but you can also use other images as well… In this image, I used pictures of hair for the hair… lips for the lips… but you don’t have to do it that way… just something to think about!:

We will add another twist to this project by combining different fiber arts into our collage-:

We will add another twist to this project by combining different fiber arts into our collage- You can combine different materials with the paper text, such as yarn, string, wire, metal, reed, raffia, fabric, beads, shells, found materials. (PP1DHSL2)

This collage has incorporated some other fibers into it also… what do you see?:

You can even add some splattered paint through a stencil for another layer of interest onto your collage.:

Overall Objectives::

Overall Objectives: Combine a change in value/color with texture (PP1AHSL2) Create or modify an image using general software (PP1CHSL1) Combine different fiber art materials (PP1DHSL2) Contrast textures within the same artwork (EP1DHS3)

Steps::

Steps: 1 st we will find an image or images to inspire our work and save it. 2 nd we will create a gmail account for each of you. In the gmail account you will import your saved image, and then use their photo editing program. We will experiment with different ways to edit the image’s value so you can think about this when you collage it. 3 rd we will print the images and then we will begin the drawing process to map out the collage IF that’s the way you want to approach it… It will depend on what method of collage and end-product you are going for. We can discuss your approach after you brainstorm.

Basically, to simplify this- ask yourself this::

Basically, to simplify this- ask yourself this: Do you want to find one image and recreate it using text and collage techniques? Do you want to find more than one image and recreate them into one composition using text and collage techniques? Search for images you want to recreate and then narrow down how you want your composition layed out. We are editing the image to help you see the value contrast for your collage techniques. You will not have to recreate them exactly like that, but it will be a tool to help you. You can either grid your image and recreate it that way, or just totally free for all it… Talk to me 
