All luxury car brands worth their salt have launched operations in India. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, you name the brand and there is a good chance they have launched full blown operations in India. As disposable income of Indians increases and the list of millionaires in India gets bigger, the rise of luxury car market is a definitive reality. We take a look at some of the key highlights of the Indian luxury car market. BMW AUDI Mercedes Porsche Ferrari Lamborghini Jaguar Lexus Rolls Royce Volvo Bentley Aston Martin Land Rover MAJOR PLAYERS Slide 5: Luxury car market in India is growing at a very promising rate and is expected to grow 15% annually in the period 2015-2018. According to IHS automotive 35,000 luxury cars were sold in 2015, a 21 percent increase from 2012. By 2020, IHS estimates that the total number of cars sold in a year would be 87,000, twice as many cars sold in 2015. This is tremendous growth rate and will mean a remarkable number of other brands joining in the party as well. MARKET SCENARIO Slide 6: Luxury car market in India is dominated by the German giants Audi, Mercedes and BMW. Of the approx 35000 premium cars sold in India , around 31000 were sold by these three German automakers. Of the 50 new product launched in 2015, 40 luxury cars were offered by the German trio. Mercedes leads the pack of these supercars in 2015, reclaiming its position from Audi and selling close to 13,000 units in the fiscal year. GERMAN ONSLAUGHT (DEUTSCHER ANGRIFF) Slide 7: Since the onslaught of German trio, a lot of mean machines are roaming around on the streets of India. This has given birth to a thriving new sector, the pre owned luxury car market. As the numbers increase, the market for pre owned luxury cars will also expand. Since lot of these luxury cars are style statement, people don’t mind buying a pre owned supercar and save lakhs of rupees in the process. All types of cars are available in the Indian market, from a used BMW 7 series in Delhi to a used Audi A4 in Coimbatore. India is spoilt for choices when it comes to buying a pre-owned luxury car. PRE OWNED LUXURY CAR MARKET Slide 8: In 2016, the luxury car market was hit by the diesel car ban in New Delhi and other regulatory problems. However analysts believe that the volumes are going to increase in the coming years. The next round of growth will come when these companies make inroads into the Indian hinterland and expand their dealer network. Another factor that will be a key in the growth will be the availability of easy financing options for these cars.
