Teenage Pregnancy & The Pregnancy Pact:

Teenage Pregnancy & The Pregnancy Pact By: Rebecca Kimmet

Slide 2:

The Pact

Slide 3:

THE TOWN IS GLOUCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS. THIS PACT OCCURRED IN THE SMALL TOWN’S HIGH SCHOOL OF ONLY 1,351 STUDENTS AND 150 FACULTY AND STAFF IN THE YEAR OF 2008.

Slide 4:

By the summer of 2008, 17 girls from THE high School were expecting babies. This is more than four times the Amount as the Year before.

Slide 5:

ONE OF THE PREGNANT STUDENTS, ON GOOD MORNING AMERICA, STATED: “There was definitely no pact [...] There was a group of girls already pregnant that decided they were going to help each other to finish school and raise their kids together.”

Slide 6:

WHAT DO YOU THINK? True or False?

Slide 7:

Disappointment in having negative Pregnancy tests? The rate of pregnancy raising over 4 times that of the year before ? Could the pact, in fact, be real?

Slide 8:

WHY ARE PREGNANT TEENS CONSIDERED A MINORITY? The definition of “minority” is: the smaller part or number; a number, part, or amount forming less than half of the whole .

Slide 9:

HUH? This just means that the group does not make up the majority of the population.

Slide 10:

THE STRUGGLES THEY FACE. For many teenage girls, finding out they are pregnant is the worst thing that could ever happen to them. Telling their parents can be even worse.

Slide 11:

-Maternity c lothes. -Healthcare. -Nursery. -Baby gear (a stroller, toys, diaper bag). -Personal Items (diapers, baby wipes, baby food). -Infant clothing. -Childcare. EXPENSES

Slide 12:

STEREOTYPES . Some of the stereotypes about teenagers who are pregnant are: She’s a “slut” or “sleeps around” She didn’t use protection It was all her fault She’s immature (kids raising kids) She wasn’t raised properly She’s uneducated

Slide 13:

I personally believe that the Pregnancy Pact does exist because for me, all signs point to yes. After doing research on the topic of teen pregnancy, I learned a lot about how this group is considered a minority, as well as the struggles that teenagers must face as a result of becoming pregnant. CONCLUSION.
