 Back pain is a common problem that affects people from all walks of life.  It is estimated that 1 in 10 Canadians suffer from chronic back pain. There are many bad habits for your back which indirectly or directly affect your spinal cord. Following are some bad habits that are hurting your back: 1. Poor Posture  Poor posture while standing sitting or working is the number one factor responsible for back pain. Driving for a long period or slouching your shoulders can also result in back pain. 2. Wearing High Heel Shoes  Wearing high heel shoes for an extended period not only affects and damages your feet but also bends the natural alignment of your spine. To avoid permanent spinal damage start wearing comfortable shoes.

3. Exercise  Exercise plays an important role in maintaining your overall health and wellbeing. It keeps your back healthy and pain-free. Lack of physical activity and ignoring a healthy diet can result in back pain due to increased pressure on the back by being overweight. 4. Carrying Heavy Bags  Carrying heavy bags puts pressure on your muscles ligaments and tendons on one side while also tilting the spine. It is advised to carry small bags or carry a backpack which distributes the weight equally on both the shoulders. 5. Sleeping On an Old Mattress  It is advised to replace your mattress every 10 years. Old or worn-out mattresses can cause a lot of back problems by causing your spine to sag. Look for a mattress that is not too hard or too soft for your back.
