slide 1: Issue with Engine Over speed Condition:
Fixing Error code P0219 of a car
What the P0219 code means
The P0219 code means that the revolutions per minute of the engine’s crankshaft measured by the
tachometer has exceeded a predetermined limit set by the vehicle’s manufacturer. Most vehicles
that have a tachometer will have a red line mark towards the top of the gauge to indicate that the
engine speed has become excessive. When the needle on the tachometer enters the red zone is
when the P0219 code may be set in the vehicle’s powertrain control module.
What are the causes of the P0219 code
Driver error from deliberate or accidental over revving of the engine
Defective CKP or CMP sensor
Bad transmission input or output speed sensor
Open or shorted circuit in the CKP CMP or transmission input/output speed sensor system
Faulty PCM or a PCM programming error
What are the symptoms of the P0219 code
Symptoms can range from none at all to any start condition. A service engine soon lamp will almost
certainly accompany these symptoms and certain models have a built-in engine disabler if engine
RPMs become too excessive. Many late model vehicles can be programmed to shut the engine off
when a certain RPM Level is exceeded.
Common mistakes when diagnosing the P0219 code:
slide 2: This code is almost always caused by driver error. Technician report that many drivers are hesitant
to admit to over revving the engine especially if the vehicle is within the warranty period
What repairs can fix the P0219 code
Simply erasing the code.
Replacing the engine speed sensor.
Replacing the powertrain control module.
