To have poison center experts who are trained to handle all kinds of poison emergencies
To setup a Toll-Free-Telephone across the country for Poison Information & Assistance The primary objective of the Poison center will be:
Slide12: We will save lives and reduce illness from poisonings
We will reduce the healthcare costs related to poisonings
We will work to prevent Poisonings The Vision for the LN Poison Center:
Slide13: Functions of the LN Poison Center
To provide immediate life-saving information for:
suicide attempts
medication errors
chemical spills
occupational exposures
product misuse
drug interactions
pet poisoning
Slide14: LN Poison Center will have in-house poison experts, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When any health care provider or EMS provider has a question about poisons, he or she can also call the poison center for information/assistance.
Slide15:
LN Poison Center will receive calls for poison emergencies, and in-house experts will take care of the problem over the phone. This is much faster and cheaper than calling an ambulance and going to the emergency room.
If you do need hands-on care, the LN Poison Center will call an ambulance for the person, give treatment advice to the ambulance crew, then call the emergency department so they’re ready for the patient’s arrival. POISON CENTER & EMS
