What is Windows? A Microsoft window is the most popular operating system. Windows is the system software that operates or runs our computer. Windows is multitasking Operating System. Windows can run two or more programs at the same time. Windows controls how programs run, how the mouse moves, and how the letter appear on your screen as we type by the keyboard.


What is Desktop? The desktop is the main screen area that you see after you turn on your computer and log on to Windows.


The desktop also consists of a light blue bar located at the bottom of the screen called the taskbar. TASKBAR :


The taskbar is the long horizontal bar at the bottom of your screen. Unlike the desktop. It has three main sections: The Start button which opens the Start menu. The middle section , which shows you which programs and files you have open and allows you to quickly switch between them. The notification area, which includes a clock and icons (small pictures) that communicate the status of certain programs and computer settings. TASKBAR :


Task Pen: The Buttons will appear on the taskbar for each window that you opened is known as task pen. You can work simultaneously among the applications by just clicking on their button on the taskbar.


The most important feature on the taskbar is the start button. The start button will open the main menu of the computer called the start menu. Start Menu: The start menu is the main path to everything you can do with your computer. All of the programs that are installed on your computer are located on the start menu under the sub-menu


The System Tray is located on right side of the Taskbar. The system tray displays the current time and programs that may be running on the computer . System Tray / Notification Area:


Desktop Icons Icons are small pictures that represent files, folders, programs, and other items. When you first start Windows, you'll see at least one icon on your desktop The Recycle Bin (more on that later). Your computer manufacturer might have added other icons to the desktop. Some examples of desktop icons are shown


Identify the Windows Items: Title Bar THE TITLE BAR: The title bar is that top most strip in any windows. It show s the name of the p rogram, as well as the name of any open file.


Identify the Windows Items: Minimize Button MINIMIZED BUTTON : A click on the minimized button make its win do ws disappear, although its little button still lives on the task bar along the bottom of your screen.


Identify the Windows Items: Maximize Button MAXIMIZED BUTTON : A click on the maximized button makes the widows swell up , taking up as much space on screen as possible. Keyboard user can press Alt, the spacebar


Identify the Windows Items: Close Button CLOSE BUTTON : A click on the Cross button it close the active widows Keyboard user can press Alt + F4


Identify the Windows Items: Scrollbar SCROLL BAR : A vertical or horizontal bar commonly located on the right or bottom of a window that allows you to move the window viewing area up, down, left, or right.


Identify the Windows Items: The Menu Bar THE MENU BAR : The menu bar is the part of an application window, typically at the top left side, thats drop-down menus that allow the user to interact with the content or application in various ways.


Identify the Windows Items: The Standard Toolbar THE STANDARD TOOLBAR : The standard toolbar provides a quick shortcut to many frequently used functions. You can customize the buttons that appear on the standard toolbar using the customize toolbar menu item.


Identify the Windows Items: The Address Bar THE ADDRESS BAR : It will appear as a drop down menu labeled "Address" and "My Computer" will be in the drop down menu window. Clicking on the little arrow immediately to the right of "My Computer" drops down a tree showing the drives, folders, and devices that compose it. You'll see the same items you would if you opened My Computer in a window.


Identify the Windows Items: The Active Window ACTIVE WINDOW: The last window you clicked the one that’s currently highlighted is considered active window or any keys that you press affect this window.
