PowerPoint Presentation:

Earth’s average temperature has increased about 1 degree Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius ).

PowerPoint Presentation:

Nearly 70 percent of the planet’s freshwater is frozen in ice sheets, glaciers, permanent snow cover and permafrost.

PowerPoint Presentation:

With increasing Global Warming, glaciers are shrinking by 12% per decade.

PowerPoint Presentation:

In 2012, Arctic summer sea ice reached its lowest extent on record.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Greenland ice loss doubled between 1996 and 2005 .

PowerPoint Presentation:

I ce on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Shrinking ice covers have an accelerating effect on global warming. Ice-covered surfaces reflect more solar energy & have a global cooling effect. As ice-covered surfaces are reduced, global warming will accelerate because more heat will be absorbed.

PowerPoint Presentation:

As ice retreats due to rising temperatures, seasonal water supplies are projected to decrease in mountain regions, home to more than one-sixth of the world’s population.

s:

s The Tibetan Plateau- the highest and the largest in the world- supplies water to nearly a third of the world’s people.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Unprecedented warming is causing 95 percent of the plateau’s monitored glaciers to shed more ice than they’re adding .

PowerPoint Presentation:

As climate change melts sea ice, the U.S. Geological Survey projects that two thirds of polar bears will disappear by 2050.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Narwhals- Arctic animal many scientists consider most vulnerable to extinction due to global warming. Their restricted geographic distribution, specific migration routes & specialized diets make them more vulnerable- 2008 study.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Global warming is threatening one of the most endearing symbols of Antarctica - the penguin. Four species of penguin are facing a dual threat from loss of nesting sites and a shortage of food.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Salmon species is threatened by increased winter flow in freshwater streams due to global warming. The fast-moving water will sour riverbeds when delicate Salmon eggs are present. Summertime flows, in turn, will be reduced, possibly leading to a decline in freshwater habitat for adult Salmon.

PowerPoint Presentation:

1,50,000 global human deaths per year World Health Organization (WHO) attributes to climate change including: Extreme weather Drought Heat waves Decreased food production Increased spread of malaria

PowerPoint Presentation:

The global average sea level has risen 4-8 inches over the past century.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Carbon dioxide (one of the major greenhouse gases) concentrations are at their highest in 650,000 years.

PowerPoint Presentation:

China currently emits the most greenhouse gases. Its roaring industrial sector has pushed the country’s carbon emissions to double-digit annual increases.

PowerPoint Presentation:

The United States of America has perennially topped the list of greenhouse gas emitters but was surpassed in 2006-07 by China.

PowerPoint Presentation:

About half of the world's original forests had been destroyed by 2011, the majority during the previous 50 years. Since 1990 half of the world's rain forests have been destroyed.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Today, nearly 900 million people have no access to clean water, and with 83 million more people on Earth each year, water demand will keep going up.

What we can do to be the face of climate change…:

What we can do to be the face of climate change… RE DUCE RE USE RE CYCLE

Change a light bulb:

Change a light bulb According to US Environmental Protection Agency, Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) use 2/3 rd less energy than standard incandescent bulbs and last up to 10 times longer. Replacing a 60-watt incandescent with a 13 watt CFL will save about $30 in energy costs over the life of the bulb.

Plant a sapling:

Plant a sapling A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime .

Try carpooling:

Try carpooling A small car emits around .59 pounds of carbon dioxide per mile A medium car emits around 1.1 pounds of carbon dioxide per mile An SUV/4 wheel emits around 1.57 pounds of carbon dioxide per mile Car pooling, also known as ride-sharing or lift-sharing, can save you big bucks on gas, wear and tear on your vehicle, oil resources and reduce all the associated nasty environmental impact associated with driving.

Switch off lights when not in use:

It's also a good idea to turn off the water when not using it. Switch off lights when not in use

PowerPoint Presentation:

Conserve Energy Did you know that you are using a super huge amount of energy by keeping your electronics (phone charger, blow dryer, etc.) plugged in? Save over 1,000 lbs. of CO2 and $256 a year by unplugging everything.
