Objective :

Objective Improving today’s Traffic Lights situations Electricity Generation from Speed-Breaker Provide 24X7 electricity in less investment

Concept of Elec-Traffication :

Concept of Elec-Traffication An energy crisis is any great bottleneck in the supply of energy resources to an economy. Generally when vehicle is in motion it produces various forms of energy like, due to friction between vehicle’s wheel and road i.e. rough surface HEAT Energy is produced, Also when vehicle traveling at high speed strikes the wind then also heat energy is produced which is always lost in environment and of which we can’t make use of…. OR directly we can say that all this energy that we can’t make use of is just the WASTAGE OF ENERGY that is abundantly available around us

…Concept Continues… :

…Concept Continues… In this project we are just trying to make use of such energy in order to generate an ELECTRICAL ENERGY. This project will work on the principle of “POTENTIAL ENERGY TO ELECTRICAL ENERGY CONVERSION” A vehicle weighing 1,000 kg going up a height of 10 cm on breaker, produces approximately 0.98 kilowatt power So one such speed-breaker on a busy highway, where about 100 vehicles pass every minute, about one kilo watt of electricity can be produced every single minute

Piezo-Electricity :

Piezo-Electricity The word piezoelectricity means electricity resulting from pressure A piezoelectric substance is one that produces an electric charge when a mechanical stress is applied

Some Piezoelectric materials :

Some Piezoelectric materials Naturally-occurring crystals Berlinite (a phosphate material) Cane Sugar Quartz Rochelle Salt Topaz Other natural materials Bone Silk Enamel Man-Made Crystals Langasite Lead Titanate, etc

Concept Model :

Demerits :

Demerits Can Generate High Voltages Continuous Operation Provide High Light Intensity One Time Fit & Forget, Trouble Free Operations Reduces Government Liability Opportunities of Energy Harvesting Technologies A steady stream of traffic passing over the bump can generate 10-36kW of power Merits More maintenance is required Initial investment could be a problem Very careful measurements have to be made

Financial Aspect :

Financial Aspect Conventional speed breakers cost about Rs 6,000 each The bumps can each produce between Rs 3 and Rs 10.80 of energy an hour for up to 16 hours a day, or between Rs 17,520 and Rs 63,072 a year Overall, the initial investment is around Rs3.5–Rs4.5 lacs per region as each material costs around Rs450-Rs500

Challenges :

Challenges Cannot be applied in RURAL areas where traffic is less and concrete roads are unavailable Huge initial investment Dealing with Government organizations

How to Overcome Challenges :

How to Overcome Challenges Try to take subsidies from Government to implement our idea Currently it is proposed for urban areas only NGOs for rural development can be involved A system could be UPDATED further in which concrete roads may not be needed

Future Scope :

Future Scope Such speed breakers can be designed for heavy vehicles, thus increasing input torque and ultimately output of generator More suitable and compact mechanisms to enhance efficiency
