Depression has been linked with nutritional deficiencies. Depression is a biological illness and people cannot just snap out of it. Depression can be caused by multiple factors including: genetic, environmental, social and nutritional imbalance. There are many factors that can contribute to biochemical depression. Biological depression is the insufficient amount or inadequate use of chemicals in our brain called neurotransmitters. The major neurotransmitters involved are serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine . People are not depressed because they are weak or feel sorry for themselves. It is a biochemical illness that needs to be treated.Slide 2: Only a professional can diagnose you with major depression. The general symptoms are: depressed or sad mood, lack of interest in things you used to enjoy, fatigue, feelings of hopelessness or helplessness, sleeplessness or sleeping to much, not eating or eating to much, feelings of worthlessness, shame or guilt and thoughts of death or harming yourself. According to the DSM IV-TR (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual) for mental health professions, if you have four or more of the above symptoms, which have lasted more than two weeks, you may have clinical depression.Slide 3: If you have had thoughts of harming yourself or someone else get professional help immediately. Some people with depression may need to be teated with antidepressants and psychotherapy. Some others might just need a dietary change. If you feel depressed, evaluate your diet and talk to a nutritionist. When you are depressed it is more important than ever to eat an adequate diet. Eating junk food or fad dieting can make your symptoms worse. Fad diets why they are bad are because they do not contain adequate nutritonal needs and may lead to deficiencies and illness. Fad diets also may leave you feeling down and listless from the diet and from the fact that it did not work. Your mood ends up crashing at the end of a fad diet.Slide 4: You need to provide enough nutrients for your body to produce enough energy to fight your depression. There are dietary ways to change the chemicals in your brain. The deficiency in B Complex Vitamins has shown to influence depression. You should be able to get most of your B vitamins by eating a proper diet. Foods that help contribute Vitamin B Complex in your diet include: milk products, fresh vegetables, eggs, meat, and poultry. Vitamin B12 also indicated in depression is hard to get from our regular diet. This vitamin comes from plant food like seaweed, organic food or tempeh . B12can be supplemented by injection, by a pill or by a patch. Other B supplements are available as well. Large dosages of Vitamin B supplements have been use successfully to treat depression .Slide 5: The other culprit that can lead to depression is Omega 3 fatty acids. Most of us do not get enough of these and one reason is because we do not all have access to fresh fish. Omega 3 fatty acids come from cold water fish, not seafood, tuna, salmon, flaxseed oil, walnuts, sesame seeds and fish oils. Large dosages of Omega 3 fatty acids have been used successfully to treat depression. Magnesium deficiency has been linked with depression symptoms and many physical ailments. Magnesium supplements are available. A multivitamin does not contain enough magnesium for your daily diet and it is difficult to get the amount we need from food. A few foods that contain magnesium are Brazil nuts, bran, halibut, spinach and almonds. Treatment with magnesium could be your depression cure.Slide 6: Selenium and zinc deficiencies have been shown to affect mood. A multivitamin can supply the amount needed for health. A well balance diet can meet selenium and zinc requirements. There are other nutritional, mineral and essential nutrients that factor in with depression. Some of these include vitamins C, vitamin D and potassium. It is possible that your depression could be related to your diet. Evaluate your diet and seek advice from your doctor or nutritionist. Most importantly, maintain a healthy well balanced diet and include exercise in your lifestyle. Exercise helps in the treatment of depression. It releases the feel good brain chemicals. If your depression does not lift with dietary changes or exercise alone, seek professional psychiatric help.Slide 7: One of the hottest topics in dentistry today is Conscious Sedation. Many people suffer from dental anxiety, and as a result have neglected taking care of their teeth. If you have found this page, chances are you or someone you know is in need of some dental work. Dental anxiety can be life altering, many people avoid having needed dental treatment because they are embarrassed by their fears and neglect. We at Advanced Dentistry New Jersey adhere to a strict policy of being a NO-LECTURE zone. We offer dental treatment without lectures, without being embarrassed, and without fear or pain. Sedation dentistry has allowed several hundred patients to get the care they need in our office located near several counties and cities in the Central New Jersey area.Slide 8: What is sedation dentistry? Sedation dentistry is a technique that generally uses oral medications to suppress anxiety, reduce fear, and pain – creating a better dental experience for you. Sedation or enteral sedation is defined as using a pharmacological agent for the purpose of causing anxiolysis and a depressed state of consciousness (sounds pretty intimidating doesn’t it?) To put it in easy to understand terms, sedation dentistry is really taking one tiny pill one hour before treatment that puts you completely at ease and in a state of complete relaxation – and many times patients don’t even remember the appointment. That’s it! It’s hard to believe but our patients just know they had a great visit and now have a healthier, more beautiful smile.Slide 9: Many people all over the world are becoming more and more guarded when thinking about the whole concept of depression, and this is really what you need to be able to know about when trying to figure out some of the psychological problems that you might be affected with. Now, before taking that depression test, there are some things that you might want to know about the whole concept of depression and what you need to do to be able to control and curb it from becoming a problem in your life in the first place. This editorial will talk a little on the concept of depression and how it can help you. For one thing, you need to know that depression is a mood that happens on all people and tat it is completely natural. You need to understand that when in the search for information, the popular belief is that normal levels of depression that actually come out on the onset of trauma or loss, is actually the body’s way of coping with the problem in the first place, and this prevents people from jumping of root tops or blowing themselves away with hand gun. If you notice the mechanics of depression, you would really be able to understand this.Slide 10: As a person who is depressed, they are normally incapacitated in some ways, they lose some strength, and sometimes they over eat or do not eat much as a way to cope with the whole problem. They actually hibernate in the conscious sense and this is the main way that the body actually protects itself from the effects of depression. So when trying to understand why there is depression in the first place, you really need to know that nothing happens in the body without a good reason, and most of the time, even the most negative of elements have a good reason for being there in the first place. Also, there is another theory that says that depression is actually the body’s method of actually asking for external help, as it is unable to cope with the whole issue of depression on its own. As emotional healing goes, no one really knows the body’s capacity to heal wounds and scars within the emotional cortex, and this is why some people and psychologists actually say that the whole concept of depression is derived from the body’s need for some sort of emotional support from external parties.
