World Music Fiesta : 

Sha Tin Government Secondary School World Music Fiesta

Preface : 

Preface Hong Kong, as an international city, is a place full of attractions that are appealing to tourists. However, the exceptional music culture of Hong Kong has never been promoted before. Without doubt, the music culture of Hong Kong is worth developing as it shows a unique Hong Kong style, which in fact, is a collection of music from different corners of the world. In this proposal, we are going to show you how we are going to boost music tourism in Hong Kong. The program is divided into 3 sections.

Our Goal and Objectives : 

Our Goal and Objectives Goal: To promote Hong Kong as the Paradise of Music. Objectives: i. To make Hong Kong music a well-known culture in the world; ii. To construct and establish latest music attractions in Hong Kong; iii. To hold an advertising campaign related to music to increase the number of visitors to Hong Kong.

Slide 4: 

Stage 1

1st Stage (Apr – Jun) : 

1st Stage (Apr – Jun) It comprises the internal preparation and external promotion stage. Internal i. Search for music talents and select those who get the greatest potential to be musicians in the future to enter the Music College (will be set up for sustainable development); ii. Apply musical themes in 2-3 hotels;

iii. Collaborate with theme parks (i.e. Ocean Park and Disneyland Hong Kong)to hold music-themed activities throughout the program; iv. Construct a music street in some old districts (e.g. Sheung Wan) with the following features: a. Street Music Performance(e.g. Temple Street’s traditional music) b. Music-themed Restaurants c. Music Souvenir Shop d. Shops selling special music instruments (e.g. Sanxian, Matouqin)

v. Hold all-year round exhibitions in the Hong Kong History Museum to introduce the following topics sequentially: a. History of Cantonese Opera b. History of Chinese Orchestra c. Development of Hong Kong Pop Music Public talks will also be held in the exhibition. Famous artists and composers will be invited to share their experiences and stories about music.

Slide 8: 

External i. Construct a website to introduce traditional music of Hong Kong and provide news about the latest music activities in the region. ii. Open a Facebook group to disseminate information about the exhibitions and activities going to be organized; and at the same time, to form a community for music lovers

Slide 9: 

ii. Send the elite members of Cantonese Opera and Chinese Orchestra to perform in 12 different cities respectively and have sharing with local music teams. Cantonese Opera is suggested to send to places are less popular, such as Germany, Austria & the United Kingdom in Europe. Chinese Orchestra is suggested to send to places are less popular, such as the United States & Canada.

Stage 2

2nd Stage (Jul - Sep) : 

2nd Stage (Jul - Sep) A large scale music festival – Hong Kong International Music Festival. Tour packages are offered and discounts are given to tourists who join all the activities in the Festival. The Festival will include concerts and a Fun Fair.

Slide 12: 

To allow overseas tourists to get to the venue, the Fun Fair will be held in the AsiaWorld Expo, a fully-fledged world-class exhibition venue for 1 month. Display and game booths will be set up, with musicians playing musical instruments of various kinds and games which introduce the features of such instrument. Souvenir shops will also be run at the venue. To show the close relationship between dance and music, dance performances, in particular Chinese dance will also be organized during the Fun Fair.

Slide 13: 

Concerts will be held at the Hong Kong Cultural Center every weekend. The Chinese Orchestra which represented Hong Kong in the exchange program aforementioned will be the core performer. The Orchestra will be invited to perform piece blending the Chinese and Western style of music in order to pinpoint the ‘multi-cultural’ feature of our program. Meanwhile, Cantonese Opera, Western Orchestra, a cappella, band and pop music performance will also be held in the concerts. Popular local artistes will be invited (e.g. Andy Lau, Lang Lang, Ren Jianfei, etc.) to perform at the concerts.

Stage 3

3rd Stage (Oct – Dec) : 

3rd Stage (Oct – Dec) After the half year preparation, the Music Street and Music-themed hotel will be ready for operation. A one-day themed tour is suggested to be held, visiting these places and the theme parks in Hong Kong. Besides, tourists will be led to different music scenic spots such as Music Farm.

Expected Outcome : 

Expected Outcome With reference to the data of the Hong Kong Immigration Department and the Hong Kong Book Fair 2010, if the International Music Festival is run successfully, it is expected that it will attract 30,000 overseas tourists to enjoy the Concerts and 46,000 overseas tourists to join the Fun Fair. Meanwhile, the exhibition from stage 1 is expected to attract 10,000 people in the whole program; the one day tour at the 3rd stage is expected to attract 4000 tourists from North America and Europe.

In total, the whole program is expected to attract around 90,000 tourists from overseas in the last 3 quarters of 2011. That will cause an increase of more than 1% in comparison with the same period in the year of 2010.

Sustainable Development : 

Sustainable Development Music College will be set up to train up young musicians. The Fun Fair is expected to be more popular after the first year. As a result, it is recommended that the activity will be run in collaboration with the Hong Kong Tourism Board in the years after 2011.
