Degraded Image 8,500 Navajo men, women and children were taken from their home and forced to walk hundreds of miles during harsh winter conditions by the United States Government on the Long Walk of the Navajo. The displacement was part of President Andrew Jackson’s Indian Removal Act. The government allotted 26,000 square miles of land to of land to create the Navajo Native American Reservation.

Today poverty and the influence of the “American dream” are forcing children to leave the reservation in search of formal education. Education that is set forth by Americans with different cultural values, destroying the ancient way of the Navajo people…
