Point of View:

Point of View Perspective from which a narrative is told. 1 st person 3 rd person Limited Omniscient

First person point of view:

First person point of view The narrator is the one telling the story. The narrator will often use pronouns, such as, ‘I’ and ‘me’ Usually the narrator is the main character in the story For example, Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird is told from the point of view of Scout, a young child.

3rd person:

3 rd person point of view is that of an outsider looking at the action Two types Omniscient Limited

3rd person omniscient:

3 rd person omniscient The narrator is ‘all-knowing’ The thoughts of every character are open to the reader The narrator describes and shares the feelings and thoughts of ALL characters in the story The narrator may or may not be a character in the story The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien

3rd person limited:

3 rd person limited The narrator picks ONE character and shares all the feelings and thoughts of that ONE character The reader enters only one character's mind Usually the narrator is not a character in the story, but the narrator can be. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
