Film Opening Titles – The Karate Kid Annabel Street

PowerPoint Presentation:

The first thing we see in the opening titles of ‘The Karate Kid’ are the production companies own titles. Columbia Pictures is a very big, famous production company, implying the film will be made well and with a high budget.

PowerPoint Presentation:

‘Columbia Pictures’ is then repeated as the picture starts. Less famous production companies are then listed. The picture behind the text is of the main character’s view out of the window of the car he is travelling in. We, as the audience, get to see the place he is moving away from.

PowerPoint Presentation:

The first person’s name to appear is the director’s as he has the most important role in the making of the film. His name is followed by ‘Jaden Smith’ and ‘Jackie Chan’, two very famous people, who are the main actors in the film. ‘Jackie Chan’ is also famous for his karate skills, this, along with the title of the film (The Karate Kid) suggests the main theme of the film – karate.

PowerPoint Presentation:

We then see the main character boarding a plane. He attempts to speak Chinese, suggesting he is going to China. The title of the film then appears in the centre of the screen to get the audience’s attention.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Less important names are then listed. This includes roles such as ‘costume designer’. These roles are shown in the middle of the title sequence because the audience is not very interested in them.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Towards the end of the opening sequence the producers and writers are listed. We also see images of the plane landing and shot of the place the characters have arrived in.

PowerPoint Presentation:

The director’s name is then repeated at the end of the opening titles, which is conventional.
