The team have been responsible for delivering some of the most forward thinking science and technology career events in Europe. Launched in 2000 with the support of Lord Sainsbury. Fantastic delegate attendance with medium exhibitors. Withdrawn 2003 due to lack of support from business and government Launched in 2007. A Careers fair with strong conference. Good delegate attendance and exhibitor support. Evolved to SMART TRACK to focus on career direction and inspiration Launched in 2010 as a conference, workshop and networking event to help inspire and direct working scientists TO DATE Career alternatives for scientists

A two day event with four conference streams covering wanna be scientists, academia, working scientists and employers of scientists. Alongside there will be workshops and exhibition/networking area. SMART STEP is an event focused on 15-18 year olds who are considering their careers. We want to inspire them by listening to speakers at the top of their field. The speakers will outline how they got there and what inspired them to continue their careers. It will focus on making a difference and explore the exciting elements of science and workplace Empowering future generations through science, technology, engineering and maths to grown a dynamic innovative economy Stem Vision Statement

Keynote speaker – Minister? Speakers at the top of their field. Will outline the true wealth of choice in science focusing on the exciting travel opportunities, communication with many different cultures by sharing information, you can earn money in science etc., you can make a difference Workshop programme providing hands-on advice e.g. branding you, how to write a CV, building your networks, how to use social media for networking, where to go for help Outline programme topics

SMART CHOICE is a dedicated event for science students at university/technology colleges who are studying science and looking for career direction. The event will focus on demonstrating that your career in science is not a straight line – there are many options – you can make a difference. Invest in the next generation of researchers by funding people to undertake doctorates and post doc fellowships. Bring higher education institutions closer to business National Infra Structure Plan 2010’

Speakers will be from the PHD community all focusing on different jobs e.g. space, cleantech, pharma, biotech, contract research companies, engineering, Workshop programme providing hands-on advice e.g. branding you, how to write a CV, building your networks, how to use social media for networking, where to go for help Outline programme topics

SMART TRACK is a dedicated event aimed at PHDs in all areas of science. The objective of the event is to provide opportunities to listen and learn about their potential career paths and leave inspired and motivated to continue their research and development within science. One key element is to promote networking across the science disciplines so they share their research across platforms and not just to network in their common themes. We want a life scientists to meet an engineer who will discuss their research and explore how they could move the research closer to market. SMART TALENT This event will attract the HR Directors from all the leading science and technology companies in the UK. The event will focus on how to source, recruit and keep best science talent. One of the main USP of the event is HR’s will have an opportunity to networking with other science HRs and share experiences which will be common to all. FTSE 100 companies reporting qualitatively on employee wellness and engagement out performed their peers on average total shareholder return (TSR) by 10% in 2009 Ipsis MORI 2009

A key element to the day is networking. The networking village seeks to explore and stimulate discussion and action, bringing together corporate leaders, academic scientists, technology transfer officers, policymakers and science-related professionals to inform, debate and develop a channel through which development of the ‘pipeline’ for career scientists can evolve.
