The Flood Situation in Orissa : 

The Flood Situation in Orissa Devastating floods hit Orissa on 18th September 2008 Mahanadi and its tributaries overflowed causing havoc No of districts affected: 19 Reported human deaths: 75 No of villages affected: 6382 No of villagers affected: 1,70,000 No of cattle affected: 16,47,949 Source: http://orissafloods.wordpress.com/

The Action Plan of Team Koshish : 

The Action Plan of Team Koshish The devastation caused by the floods was huge. The need of the hour was to provide immediate relief to the people. Our team thought that we needed to devise an action plan to provide help to the affected people. Given a chance to work with the Rotary Club (Bhubaneswar Metro), our team set on the journey to provide relief to the affected villages

Stage 1 : Immediate Relief Measures.. : 

Stage 1 : Immediate Relief Measures.. Trip to Moolabasant village one of the most affected villages. Started off at 8 am and reached there by 11 am. Distributed ready to eat cooked food items and Gamuchchas to all the families in the village. Distributed water pouches – one of the basic replenishments needed in an ‘FAA’. We analysed the surroundings to estimate the extent of devastation, drinking water problems, clothing necessities, availability of books and stationery for school children.

Stage 2 : Evaluation of the damage and Midterm Measures.. Book binding work:- 10 types of books for about 50 students each. Maths, English, History, Science, Oriya, G.K and Geometry for students of class 1-3. Xeroxed from original and binding done by group members of Koshish and Nau Do Gyarah

Second trip to the flood affected areas: Trips to Demando, Mandana and Baliapada- started off at 8 am, it was very inaccessible due to lack of proper roads and damaged roads. Distribution of school bags and school books from class 1-5. Organized Health camp in Demando in association with Rotary club.

Stage 2 : Evaluation of the damage and Midterm Measures.. Analysis of the damage by the floods After distributing the bags and stationary material, the team decided to assess the situation in the nearby areas. We surveyed the area for the kind of crops which were destroyed and the state of wells, houses, cattle, etc. We interacted with the locals to hear their tale of the difficult times which they went through.

Stage 3 : Touching young hearts and bringing a smile on their faces.. Third trip to the flood affected areas: Children's day celebration We started our journey from XIMB to Baliapada at 7 in the morning and reached Baliapada at 10:00 hrs. We divided ourselves into two teams, one team was organisaing events at Baliapada and others distributed the bags and biscuits to students of different classes and others distributed the bags at Demando. The gamut of events started off with a debate competition at Baliapada village. We organised Antakshari and a small quiz program and distributed spot prizes.

We divided ourselves into two teams, one team was organisaing events at Baliapada and others distributed the bags and biscuits to students of different classes and others distributed the bags at Demando. Various stages of group behaviour Forming Stage: 15th Sept 2008, when 11 different individuals formed a group. Storming Stage: Team Koshish zeroed in on the flood affected area to provide relief. Norming Stage: We understood each other’s strengths and weaknesses and formed groups based on that. Performing Stage: Working for the flood affected people, provided children with books and organizing Children’s Day Adjourning Stage
