Slide 3: 

Manual is one of the teaching materials mostly used for self-learning. It plays an important role in acquiring knowledge and skill in educational field. A good manual is complementary to textbook.

Slide 4: 

WHO collaborating centre for research in nursing development at Rajkumari Amrit Kaur College of Nursing, New Delhi prepared the module on HIV/AIDS in February 19 9 5 , which was further promoted and funded by National AIDS Control Organization (NACO). This manual is named as “HIV/AIDS: PREVENTION, CARE AND CONTROL - SELF INSTRUCTIONAL AND TEACHING MODULE FOR PRESERVICE AND INSERVICE NURSES AND MIDWIVES”.

2. . Selection of the Content The material given in this manual are: Adequate. Helpful for pre-service and in-service nurses for providing adequate knowledge, skills to render care to the AIDS patients. Includes requires exercise at the end of each module in order to assess the knowledge of the learner after going through each module. The material in this manual is adequate however; the health education part though has been not emphasized as though in separate unit but the points of health education have been emphasized within other units text. 3 . Organization and Presentation of the Material: The materials in this module are arranged in an interesting manner to attract the attention of the subjects. The topics included are relevant and it is meaningful. The explanation of all the technical terms is discussed at the end of module. Logical sequence is followed in arranging the topics. Illustrations are clear and relevant. The information given covers all the areas but needs to be updated. The Instructors guide is included in the manual. NACO MANUAL

The material of the manual has been organized sequentially in form of 15 units. The material is extremely relevant and meaningful. The technical terms have been explained in between and also in the end in the glossary of the terms. The abbreviations list is in the beginning. The illustrations and pictures are many and useful. The latest data with training schedule has been laid down. The “Facilitators guide” comes as a separate copy. NURSES MANUAL

4 . Language The language used in this manual is: Clear, simple, easy to understand. This manual is written in English and it is not translated to any other languages. Short instructions in the beginning of the manual help the reader to use the manual effectively. The language is clear, simple, easy understandable. The manual is in ENGLISH. 5 . Exercises Self-check exercises are given to stimulate the critical thinking in the learners. The exercises have been given in the separate section and stimulate self , group activity for critical thinking and development of the overall skills for helping the patients based on the clinical situations to boost confidence of learner. This manual is very bulky as it involves 11 modules. The paper used are of good quality. The writing style is very good, attractive and easily readable. This manual is available in the libraries of the most of the schools and Colleges of Nursing. The manual gives information in a practical manner keeping in mind the practical situation of the hospitals and communities. It is spiral bound. 6. Practicability NACO MANUAL

8. PATTERN OF THE MANUAL The cover page of the manual is pink in colour and clearly written. It could have been made more attractive interesting few pictures/symbols. The preface and acknowledgment are written in a concise manner at the beginning of the manual. Table of content and the instruction or using the manual is written after the acknowledgment. List of figures are not given at the beginning of the manual but the list is given after the completion of each chapter. Each module has SIM and Teaching Module. NACO MANUAL

The cover page is blue and clearly written. It has pictures too. The foreword and acknowledgement are written briefly at beginning of the manual. Table of contents and the instruction or using the manual is written before the foreword. The list of figures not present. The general instructions have been given. The manuals so prepared , both are best for providing training and refreshing knowledge of the nurses regarding HIV/AIDS specially for the in-service nurses who have to deal with the patients every one and then. The emphasis has to be on the correct usage and availability to the nurses for updating their knowledge. It is a valid tool for in-service education.
