You state when it happened using a time adverb (yesterday, etc.) The past of the verb to be is was/were. We form a simple past tense like this… : The past of the verb to be is was/were. We form a simple past tense like this… Slide 5: 5-5 PAST TIME WORDS: YESTERDAY, LAST, AND AGO NOTICE: In (a): yesterday is used with morning, afrernoon, and evening. In (b): last is used with night, with long periods of time (week, month, year), with seasons and with days of the week. In (c): ago means "in the past." It follows specific lengths of time (e.g., two minutes + ago, five years + ago). Exercices : Exercices Exercise Was or Were? Complete the sentences with was or were. Then change them into negative form I__________ happy. You_______ angry. She_______ in London last week. He__________ on holiday. It________ cold. We_______ at school. You_______ at the cinema.
