Precambrian Geoscience Section OGS 2011 Bedrock Mapping & Geophysical Projects

Outline:

Outline Precambrian Geoscience Section – function, initiatives & collaborations Geoscience Projects in Geographic Regions – Far North, NW, NE & SE Planning

Core Business Functions:

Core Business Functions Precambrian Bedrock Mapping provide maps, reports, technical talks and posters, new concepts, ideas and client consultations. Geophysical Data Acquisition and Interpretation provide regional airborne geophysical data, derivative products, concepts, ideas to support bedrock mapping.

Technical initiatives & collaborations requiring PGS resources in 2011 & 2012:

Technical initiatives & collaborations requiring PGS resources in 2011 & 2012 Far North Land Use Planning – ongoing mapping & airborne geophysical surveys Targeted Geoscience Initiative 4 - focus on Lode Gold and Cu-Ni-PGE + Cr across Ontario; airborne gravity survey and mapping in the McFaulds Region aka “Ring of Fire” Hudson Platform Geoscience – GEO-Mapping for Energy & Minerals (GEM) – airborne geophysical survey

Far North :

Far North Collect new geoscience data to support CBLUP, mineral resource development, far north economy, jobs - Geoscience Gap Analysis – RoF - Support TEK mapping – Eabametoong - Collaborate with GSC – TGI4, GEM

McFaulds Region Bedrock Mapping & Compilation Project

McFaulds Regional Bedrock Mapping & Compilation Project - Second year of project - 124 diamond-drill holes, totalling about 30 000 m re-logged to date - 53 outcrop exposures mapped - on-going modelling and integration of geophysical data as part of interpretation - collaboration with TGI-4 GSC projects & Universities:

Strong dextral shear in mafic metavolcanics - o/c data provides important structural data not always discernable in drill core:

Strong dextral shear in mafic metavolcanics - o/c data provides important structural data not always discernable in drill core o/c of magnetite-bearing tonalite - numerous large o/c of plutonic rocks; high magnetic response misinterpreted as gabbro.
