Why it makes Sense to Trust the Bible :

Why it makes Sense to Trust the Bible Summary and Discussion of Series

We considered the case of a book… :

We considered the case of a book… We have discovered a very old book – the Bible. We asked the question as to whether the Bible is true and whether is can be trusted? We studied this question as if we were a judge in a courtroom.

Our Investigation included … :

Our Investigation included … Does it talk about facts or is it fictional? Does the investigation prove that the Bible is never right, only partially right or fully right? Does it explain reasonably the events in the origins of man, the historical past and today? Is there wisdom and advice that can be used? Does it contradict itself or is it consistent? Is it relevant for me?

The Areas we looked at - :

The Areas we looked at - Documentary Evidence for the Old Testament Documentary Evidence for the New Testament Archaeology – Are the names and events real? The Origin of Man – Does it hold up? The Bible message itself – is it consistent and believable? Prophecies about Bible Nations Prophecies about today. Does it still hold?

The Summary of the Investigation :

The Summary of the Investigation We said that at the end, we will review the ground covered, and make appropriate conclusions from this. We have been dealing with facts. However, we do need to come back to the court room scene and make an opinion. The purpose of this investigation is to decide whether we can trust the Bible and whether deserves to be taken seriously in our lives. Remember, that the decision you make is what is important. No other opinion counts.

Area 1 :

Area 1 Area of Investigation Documentary Evidence for the Old Testament Finding There is more evidence for the age and accuracy of the Old Testament than there is for any other written work of that age. The Old Testament should be considered a reliable work. It was written from the time it says and it is accurate.

Area 2 :

Area 2 Area of Investigation Documentary Evidence for the New Testament Finding There is more evidence for the age and accuracy of the New Testament than there is for any other ancient written work. The NT could even be rewritten from all the quotations from it. The New Testament should be considered a reliable work. It was written from the time it says and it is accurate.

Area 3 :

Area 3 Area of Investigation Archaeology Finding Names and places are real. They existed in archaeological remains and historical sources. Events really happened. Social and political situations were real. The Bible is reliable as a historical source. Everything that is provable has been proven true.

Area 4 :

Area 4 Area of Investigation The Ancient Past (the Origins) – Does it Hold Up? Finding The study of origins shows that civilisation originated from the fertile crescent (modern Iraq) near where the Bible said that our origins came from (Mt Ararat and garden of Eden). Genetics (human, animal and bacterial), language studies, population studies, cultural stories, all support the Bible view of origins. The facts support the Bible description of the origins of man.

Area 5 :

Area 5 Area of Investigation The Bible message itself – is it consistent and believable? Finding In every detail there is consistency. Although written by 40 authors, 3 languages, 1500 years, there is harmony! It is believable and is reasonable to believe it. It is like there was a single person responsible. This is evidence of a greater power behind the Bible.

Area 6 :

Area 6 Area of Investigation Prophecies about Bible Nations Finding All the Bible has said or predicted about the nations has been true. Even prophecies about their future are true. The Bible is factual and correct. No man can make prophecies about nations that are 100s and 1000s of years before the event. This is the work of a greater power - God.

Area 7 :

Area 7 Area of Investigation Prophecies about today. Does it still hold? Finding Predictions made about a future age are accurate. Israel is back in its land, and it is hated. World trends point to the fulfillment of future prophecies. No man can predict the future. This is evidence of someone greater who is focused on a plan to do with Israel – God.

Summary (1) :

Summary (1) The Old and New Testaments of the Bible are as old as they say and they are accurate. The events, people, places, etc it mentions are real. The origins of civilisation is an exceptional example of this. Where else does a book hold up as being so accurate so far back in the past? ALL THIS PROVES THE BIBLE IS TRUE AND FACTUAL

Summary (2) :

Summary (2) The Bible message is harmonious and consistent. It teaches great things, and has the ring of truth. This can only be evidence of a single author. The prophesies of the past, present and future have come true or are coming true. This can only be evidence of someone who is in control of world events. THE FACTS ONLY MAKES SENSE IF GOD IS THE AUTHOR. IT IS REASONABLE TO BELIEVE THAT THE BIBLE WAS WRITTEN BY GOD

A Court of Law :

A Court of Law We asked you to consider a court room scene, with you as the judge. Rarely can any event be proven absolutely. An opinion must be made on the facts that are available. Now consider the question of whether the Bible can be trusted. Does it make sense, based on available evidence to believe that it is true? You must decide based on the information available. Whatever you decide determines how you live your life. And you must live with the consequences of whatever path you choose. Only you can do that.

Personal Comment :

Personal Comment The author is a scientist, who has reviewed the evidence for the Bible. His faith started by facing up to the facts, some of which he has covered here. These facts exist and require an explanation. They will always be there. However, it is the message of the Bible itself that is more convincing than anything else. The section on the harmony of the Bible message has given you a glimpse of that. But there are more than 1000 times more that could be said about this. There is simply far too much to present in this series. I have not done this part justice, for which I must apologise. Today my faith does not rely on finding more and more facts of archaeology or history that add to what is mentioned here. It rests on the message itself, and the beauty that I see every time I read and study it. I am in awe of the writer who teaches me new and greater things year on year. This study has been done so that you have some of the facts at your finger tips to make your decisions on. You must decide whether your opinion is that the Bible is true or that it is a work of fiction You must make your own judgement about the case before you. Does it make sense to trust the Bible? For myself, I have chosen. I would wish to share the future with everyone else who places their trust in the Bible. My future will be enriched if you are there, and God will be glorified. May you have a great future, where faith becomes reality and hope becomes unnecessary. May God be with you.
