It used to be the terminal point of Aqua Virgo which was one of the ancient aqueducts that supplied water to Rome for more than 400 years

Built in 1732 when Pope Clement XII commissioned Nicola Salvi to create a fountain at the Trevi square. Salvi died in 1751 and the fountain was finished in 1762 (30 years)

The central figure of the fountain is Neptune, god of the sea he is riding a Chariot in the shape of a shell

Neptune is pulled by two sea horses each one is guided by a triton
