Woodcock Johnson III:

Woodcock Johnson III Content: The Standard Battery consists of 12 tests that assess aspects of reading, oral language, math, written language, and other clusters. The Extended Battery consists of 10 tests that provides more in-depth diagnostic information on specific academic strengths and weaknesses. The Standard battery can be given alone or with the Extended Battery

Woodcock Johnson III TEST REVIEW FORM: Authors: Richard W. Woodcock, Kevin S. McGrew, and Nancy Mather Publisher: The Riverside Publishing Company Date: copyrighted in 2001 (a newer version exists that has seven new tests, but most schools continue to use this version due to lack of money to purchase The WJIII Nu)

Woodcock Johnson III:

Woodcock Johnson III TEST REVIEW FORM: Standardization: Specific administration directions are provided for all tests. The Examiner’s Manual includes procedures for administering and scoring the tests and for completing the Test Records. This test is given individually, in small segments of time over a period of days to weeks. Reliability: “tests show strong reliabilities of .80 or higher, some .90 or higher” (Riverside Publishing 2001)

Woodcock Johnson III:

Woodcock Johnson III TEST REVIEW FORM: Validity-(how close the norm sample represents the population to which the test results were compared AND how explicitly the data was gathered from that sample) According to Riverside Publishing 2001, “The WJIII sample was selected to represent the U.S. population from ages 24 months to 90+ years. Normative data for the test was gathered from 8,818 subjects in over 100 geographically diverse communities in the U.S.”

Woodcock Johnson III:

Woodcock Johnson III Riverside Publishing declares the WJ III to be highly accuracy and a valid diagnostic tool. TEST REVIEW CONT’D Administration: Each test comes with clear, scripted directions to be read to the student. Test administration varies per test, but approximately 5 minutes per test. To administer tests 1-11, it can take 55 to 65 minutes. Only those who have been properly trained, have experience in individual test administration, and know how to interpret the test data should give it.

Woodcock Johnson III:

Woodcock Johnson III Test Administration Basal- Is the starting point where you begin testing. Suggested starting points are given for each test according to a students grade. (Ex: If a student is in First grade, then start the test at item number 7). If the student misses 6 from the basal point, continue to test backwards page by page, until the student gets 6 correct in a row Ceiling- Is where you “stop” testing. Once the student misses six in a row, discontinue testing.

Woodcock Johnson III:

Woodcock Johnson III TEST REVIEW: Interpretation of Scores: For each test, Scoring is primarily a “1” for a correct response or “0” for incorrect response. Each test gives specific scoring directions. The scores are entered into the Test Record. Scoring for each test can be done “by hand”, that gives a quick grade level or age range for the students performance, but for most accurate information and norm based info, the WJ Compuscore Program disaggregates data for you. It gives standard score, raw score, and age or grade norms.

Woodcock Johnson III:

Woodcock Johnson III TEST REVIEW: Limitations: Age: Test can be administered to children and adults age ranges 5 to 90 Grades: K to Graduate School Students Other: The complete test can take approximately 1.5 hours to give and can only be given individually. Strengths: High validity and reliability Has a paired Cognitive Abilities Test Cluster and Extended Subtests to give more detailed information on strengths and weaknesses. Helps diagnose learning disabilities, plan individual programs, assess growth, and gives guidance in educational decision-making
