The compositions by Sharanas are called Vachanas. HARIDAASA : HARIDAASA Haridasa lineage : Haridasa lineage The Haridasa lineage sprang 800 years ago. It took birth with the inspiration of Sri Madhwacharya. It blossomed during the period of his disciple Sri Naraharitheertharu, and took the poetic form. Two centuries later through the relentless efforts of Sri SriPadarajaru and his principal disciple Sri Vyasarajaru, it reached the common man in the form of lyrics set to music. The movement gained momentum during the period of Sri PurandaraDaasaru, Sri Kanaka Daasaru & Sri VadhirajaSwamy. The tradition was carried on in the same rich fashion by Vijaya Daasaru, Gopala Daasaru, Jagannatha Daasaru and others. SANGEETHA PITAAMAHASRI PURANDARA DASARU(1484- 1564) C.E : SANGEETHA PITAAMAHASRI PURANDARA DASARU(1484- 1564) C.E Original Name : Srinivasa Nayaka Place of Birth : Kshethrapura in Shimoga Dist., Karnataka but some believe that Purandargarh near Pune in Maharashtra Compositions : Around 4,75,000 songs His Guru’s guidance and blessings : His Guru’s guidance and blessings Sri Vyasarajaru was the Guru of both the prominent Daasas, Sri Purandara Daasa and Sri Kanaka Daasa. He was the composer of the divine devotional song that millions of Hindu families have sung, over centuries, to invite Krishna into their household ….. “Krishna Nee BeganeBaaro” .He was a great devotee of Anjaneya and was instrumental in establishing over 700 Anjaneya temples around South India. SRI VIJAYA DASARU(1682-1755) : SRI VIJAYA DASARU(1682-1755) Place of Birth : Chekalaparvi, Raichur District Regarded as the reincarnation of “Bhrighua Muni.” Written about 25,000 “UGAHA BHOGHA’S” Next only to Purandara daasa and affectionately called as Daasa Shreshta. SRI JAGANNATHA DAASARU(1727-1809) : SRI JAGANNATHA DAASARU(1727-1809) A great Sanskrit and Dvaita scholar The jewel in his devotional crown was Harikathamrutha saara. SHISHUNAALA SHARIFA(1819-1889) : SHISHUNAALA SHARIFA(1819-1889) Sharif is recognized as the first ever Muslim poet, in Kannada and also a reformer and philospher and a saint Though, a Muslim by birth, Shishunala Sharif believed in Hinduism too, also bringing in the communal harmony.
