Saint Louis university Mission Statement : Saint Louis university Mission Statement The university seeks excellence in the fulfillment of its corporate purposes of teaching, research, health care, and services to the community. The university also explains the inspiration and values of the Christian tradition by the spiritual and intellectual ideals of the society of Jesus. Saint Louis university culture : Saint Louis university culture Saint Louis University’s internal culture is called a “mission culture”. This type of culture is outlined by having a clear mission, set goals, and guided direction to achieve specific objectives; such as high levels of competitiveness within the educational institute while providing education in religious beliefs. Organization Culture continued : Organization Culture continued By having a “mission culture”, the environment is reinforced by the president of the university by embracing the catholic faith. Saint Louis University Culture : Saint Louis University Culture The university teaches catholic faith and other religious classes that reinforce the mission statement. Not everyone has to have the catholic faith, but it must be respected to maintain a educational and professional environment. Communication framework : Communication framework SLU has a simple communication framework. All communication goes from department heads to the president of the school. Communication : Communication The communication structure creates a domino effect wherein all communication flows up a channel of authority. Communication tools that are used: Emails Twitter Newslink Facebook Decision Making : Decision Making Individual departments have little decision making ability. All decisions are made by the president to make sure the vision and values stay aligned. These decisions are then followed out by departments heads. Limited decision making skills : Limited decision making skills Being such a large organization sometimes allows decisions and problems to be resolved slower than if departments had more control on the environment and atmosphere at SLU. Community Outreach : Community Outreach Saint Louis believes in giving back to the students, staff, and the community. Work study program Employee (one time gift) Campus kitchen Recommendations : Recommendations It would benefit the university to have “two-way” communication implemented between employees and the president of the university. Communication goes through horizontal channels then vertical ones up to the president. Recommendations : Recommendations By having two way (vertical and horizontal) communication everyone would feel like a part of the organization. This would leading to a more professionally productive environment. Recommendation : Recommendation Be more open to organic structure. Meaning employees can contribute in the decision making process and allow communication to be passed to everyone not just people of authority. Problems can be solved faster Recommendations : Recommendations Allow for more bonding experiences between departments and authority figures through university activities and communication. -Community Service projects -Lunches Conclusion : Conclusion Saint Louis University has done a great job of creating a stable work environment that embraces the idea of helping others.
