Overview of Standards:

Overview of Standards Standard - S5P3 - Students will investigate the electricity, magnetism, and their relationship. a. Investigate static electricity. b. Determine the necessary components for completing an electric circuit. c. Investigate common materials to determine if they are insulators or conductors of electricity. d. Compare a bar magnet to an electromagnet.

Static Electricity Activity:

After watching the two videos, explore how to create static electricity with a balloon and a piece of wool. Next explore with the materials in the bag and with the two balloons to determine which items create static electricity by testing if the balloon will stick to the wall. Static Electricity Activity Items: wool, plastic. metal washer, aluminum foil, can, rubber band, and eraser

Conductors and Insulators Experiment:

Using the simple circuit, test and identify if the objects in the bag are allowing the electricity to flow or not. Items: wool, plastic. metal washer, aluminum foil, can, rubber band, and eraser. Conductors and Insulators Experiment Create a T-Chart in our science journal and explain why some objects are conductors or insulators.
