Student-Led Conferences: 

Student-Led Conferences (Teacher/Teacher) Team HTMMA Fall 2005

Purpose: 

Purpose Student-led conferences focus on you Improve communication between students, parents, and teachers Put you in charge Hold you responsible and accountable for your work and performance in school

Purpose (continued) Provide you with opportunity to share what you have learned in school Give you the chance to share your own educational goals with parents Help you to exhibit work that you are especially proud of!

How does it work?: 

How does it work? You are the presenter Your parent is the audience Your teacher is the facilitator and timekeeper You will have an agenda for sharing your portfolio Don’t worry- we’ll tell you everything you need to know!

Portfolio: 

Portfolio You will create a portfolio that represents your identity as a thinker and learner at High Tech Middle Media Arts. In the portfolio, you’ll reflect on your experiences at HTMMA up to this point and, most importantly, focus upon YOUR academic and social goals for the year!

Portfolio Reflection: 

Portfolio Reflection Reflect on your first trimester at HTMMA! Study habits Performance and effort thus far What are your strengths as a learner? What are your challenges as a learner? How can you take your academic performance to an even higher level? What are your social and participation strengths and challenges? How have you grown in the classroom this year as a young adult?

Humanities: 

Humanities Reflection on Growth in Humanities Choose a sample piece of writing or a specific project to describe in detail. After describing the process that you went through to create it, identify your strengths and target areas for improvement in future work. Reflection: Students speak about their overall strengths and weaknesses in Humanities… specifically in their reading, writing, projects, quizzes, etc. Students identify their Humanities goals for the academic year!

Integrated Math/Science: 

Integrated Math/Science 2. Reflection on Growth in Math/Science Have all quizzes and tests available in “portfolio” Teach a math concept to your parents and/or guardians Share a project Reflection: Strengths and weaknesses in math/science, project, tests/quizzes, etc.

When Describing Your Work in Humanities or Math/Science…: 

When Describing Your Work in Humanities or Math/Science… What was the assignment/project? Knowledge/skills you learned by completing it Process you went through to finish it How would you do it differently next time? Reflect on your performance in project team

Projects: 

Projects Humanities teacher can list projects for students to choose from… Integrated Math/Science teacher can list projects for students to choose from…

Goals!: 

Goals! Time for you to create your goals! You will create two measurable goals for Humanities and Math/Science, and Identify one personal goal Write a 4th goal with parent and/or guardian at the end of the conference
