What is a topology?:
What is a topology? -refers to the configuration of cables, computers, and other peripherals.
Star Configuration:
Star Configuration - all workstations are linked to a centralized network server, is usually a microcomputer or minicomputer dedicated to performing only server duties. - refers to a network wherein all the nodes are connected individually to one common hub. In other words, it is a network topology wherein transmission stations are connected to the central node in such a manner that the design resembles the shape of a star
Ring Configuration:
Ring Configuration - consists of a closed loop of linked workstations. - each node connects to exactly two other nodes, forming a single continuous pathway for signals through each node - a ring. Data travels from node to node, with each node along the way handling every packet.
Bus Configuration:
Bus Configuration - is a peer network with a break in the ring. - all network workstations are connected to a common cable or telephone line (the “bus”) that stretches from end to end. - all nodes (file server, workstations, and peripherals) are connected to the linear cable.
