Lesson 3 Comparing Fractions

Comparing Like Fractions :

Comparing Like Fractions When the denominator of both fractions is the same, simply compare the numerators: 2 6 5 6 7 8 5 8 9 12 5 12 6 9 6 9

Comparing Unlike Fractions :

Comparing Unlike Fractions When the denominators of both fractions are the different, you must find a common denominator. To find a common denominator, think of a number that both denominators go into. 2 4 5 8 The common denominator is 8 (both 4 and 8 can go into 8) X 2 X 2 To change 2/4 to eights, multiply the numerator and denominator by 2 (because 4x2=8, which is our common denominator). 4 8 5 8
