Slide 1:

To Jesus through Mary 3rd week: sunday, 12 dec to saturday, 18 dec praying @ advent time

Slide 2:

Quieten yourself and sense God’s presence in you. Be quiet with God. Know God is with you as you go through these slides.

Slide 3:

Begin by speaking to the Lord: “Dear Jesus, Soon and very soon, You will come. You will come as our joy and gladness, and we will be free and alive. Make my desire to meet you this Christmas as joyful as the joy Mary had awaiting you as the promised new life. Amen.”

Slide 4:

This Third Sunday of Advent, we glimpse Mary’s confidence in these lines from Isaiah about Jesus as joy… Israel awaited the coming Messiah to bring God’s everlasting joy. Mary rested confidently in this quiet belief because she realized the child within her is God’s promised Joy.

Slide 5:

Take some time and savour the expectant joy in these lines. Can you feel the quiet joy Mary would have within her as she recalled these lines? Isaiah 35: 1- 6 The desert and the parched land will exult; the steppe will rejoice and bloom. They will bloom with abundant flowers, and rejoice with joyful song. The glory of Lebanon will be given to them, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon; they will see the glory of the LORD, the splendour of our God. Strengthen the hands that are feeble, make firm the knees that are weak, say to those whose hearts are frightened: Be strong, fear not! Here is your God, he comes with vindication; with divine recompensehe comes to save you. Then will the eyes of the blind be opened, the ears of the deaf be cleared; then will the lame leap like a stag, then the tongue of the mute will sing.

Slide 6:

Recognizing God’s promised Joy in Mary, Elizabeth exclaimed, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.” Mary responded by singing the Magnificat, a song praising God’s goodness in her life. When you look at your life, can you too sing a song of thanksgiving for God’s goodness?

Slide 7:

Converse with Mary about God’s goodness in your life. Share with her your desire for Jesus, God’s promised joy, this coming Christmas. Instead of conversing with Mart, you may wish to use these words if they help… “Dear Mary, I see how quietly confident you are in life because you believe that Jesus is indeed God’s Joy for humankind. In my busy and hurried life, I yearn for a joy that will make me alive and free. Teach me that Jesus is Joy so that I can always look ahead with hope in my life.”

Slide 8:

“Dear Jesus, As I continue my advent wait with Mary, grant me courage to let go of my pains, attachments and needs so that I can embrace you as my true joy, now and always. I make this prayer confident that you will come to birth as the joy I seek in my life this Christmas.” Be quiet for a moment. What are you thankful for as you come to end of this prayer? End by sharing with the Lord. Glory be to the Father...

Slide 9:

Join us next Sunday for the final set of prayer slides to prepare for Jesus’ coming this Christmas.
