Our Brave Soldiers: 

Our Brave Soldiers Ranger Andy Allen was hit by an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) in 2008 whilst on tour in Afghanistan. The force of the horrific blast lifted him off the ground and tore off his right leg it also burnt the corneas in his eyes, leaving Andy blind.

It’s about Derek , a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it’s about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It’s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It’s about Ben, it’s about Steven and Andy and Mark, it’s about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes."

Many families and friends of those who have fallen in the service of our country are moved to take action in memory of their loved one. It can help with the grieving process to do something positive and many extraordinary people have raised money for the wounded in memory of the fallen

When heroic Rifleman James Brown was killed defending hundreds of innocent people from a suicide bomber, his mother Tracy decided to raise money for Help for Heroes in his memory. She wrote to us and explained;

'As much as James's loss has been unimaginably heartbreaking, I am doing my utmost to deal with everything in a way befitting of James.  If in life, at the tender age of 18, James was able to demonstrate such courage, bravery and selflessness, then I owe it to him to deal with his death with the same strength

I am also painfully aware that most people don't get to hear about our lads who come home having sustained horrendous and unimaginable injuries, and this is why I am so keen to make sure that we do think of them also and do everything we can to raise money which will benefit them in coping with life.’ We have created this page as a place where we can offer families and friends the chance to remember their loved ones and in doing so help those who live with their wounds.

You will never replace them, nor want to. You will miss them every day for the rest of your lives. That is grim but normal.  You should take comfort that they died doing a job of which they were proud; they were protecting others. Now you are choosing to help others, you can be proud. Live your life, celebrate theirs, laugh at the memories and cry at your loss. Remember them, as we will.
