Overview:

Overview Main structure: Bones Provide internal support Allow muscle attachment Connects to the muscular system because muscles move bones Produce blood cells Connects to the circulatory system because blood cells carry oxygen and nutrients necessary for the circulatory system to maintain a healthy balance.

Bones:

Bones Both tissues and organs of the body are attached to the 206 bones in our skeletal system Bones protect vital organs Marrow in bones produce blood cells

Bone Cells:

Bone Cells Osteogenic : respond to traumas Osteoblasts : form bones Osteocytes : maintain healthy bone tissue by secreting enzymes and controlling the bone mineral content. Also control calcium release from bone tissue to blood Osteoclasts : break down bone tissue. Help bones grow, heal, and be remodeled bone-lining : regulate the movement of phosphate and calcium into and out of bone

Bone Tissue:

Bone Tissue Osseous tissue Forms rigid part of the bone organ Is formed by cells (Osteoblasts) Two types of Osseous tissue: compact (form hard exterior) and spongy (fills hollow the exterior) Supports muscles, organs, and soft tissues Allows for control and movement Protects organs Stores calcium phosphate
