WHAT IS SOLID WASTE Solid waste is defined as any garbage, refuse, sludge from waste treatment plant, water supply treatment plant, or air pollution control facility and other materials, including solid, liquid, semisolid, contained gaseous resulting from industrials, commercials, mining and agricultural operations from community activities . The groups at risk from the unscientific waste disposal include : Populations in areas where there is no proper waste treatment method. children Waste workers Populations living close to waste dump Animals

Cloudburst in Mumbai (2005) clogged the sewage line due to large no. of plastic bags Blast in the Bhusan Steel factory at Noida, caused due to imported scrap from Iran Reduction in the number of migratory birds due to consumption of contaminated foods Stray animals dying on streets and farmland due to consumption of plastic bags, which blocks the food movement in their stomach

Exposure to hazardous waste can affect human health. Disposal of hospital and other medical waste requires special attention since this can create major health hazards. Waste from agriculture and industries can also cause serious health risks. Waste treatment and disposal sites can also create health hazards for the neighborhoods. Recycling  too carries health risks if proper precautions are not taken. Workers working with waste containing chemical and metals may experience toxic exposure.

Case-About Mercury Poisoning place-Minamata Bay in Japan: 

Case-About Mercury Poisoning place-Minamata Bay in Japan This was Occurred 40 years ago In Minamata Bay in Japan. There was a Plastic Plant Located Near this place from where the leftover mercury was dumped into the Bay . Though the Mercury was less toxic when dumped,the microorganisms at the bottom of the bay Converted the Mercury Into Organic Form. These organic mercury the entered into Tissues Of Fish,which were consumed by the people living in that area. This killed several people and Mothers who ate this fish when gave birth to infants they showed signs of mercury poisoning. Thus this Poisoning is Called ‘Minamata Disease’.
