Slide 1:

The video loops show ultrasound images of the left ventricular base (top) and apex (bottom) at rest and during exercise. The cartoon representation of the left ventricle in the centre shows that the base rotates in the opposite direction to the apex during contraction. REST EXERCISE Base-to-Apex gradient = Twist

REST EXERCISE The graphs show rotation traces over the whole cardiac cycle for the left ventricular base (top) and apex (bottom) at rest and during exercise. During exercise, both left rotation at the base and at the apex increase significantly, thus resulting in an increased wringing motion termed “left ventricular twist”. Rotation in opposite direction
