Premium member Presentation Transcript A look into College Prep Math I: A look into College Prep Math I Goals : Goals G ain a stronger mathematical foundation to make future success in college level math more attainable Improve study skills and time management Increase mathematical confidence Make it easier to retain informationStructure for the Course: Structure for the Course CPM I is a blend of mini-lectures , group work , and hands-on activities d esigned to help you reach your goals The mini-lectures are short in length making it easier to retain information In groups, ideas from the mini-lectures get reinforced by hands-on activities and collaboration with group membersStructure for the Course: Structure for the Course Multiple instructors and small class size allows you the freedom to ask questions and express your ideas Concepts are further reinforced using non-traditional teaching strategies This class is designed so that you take an active roleCalculating your Grade : Calculating your Grade 640- 800 S: Satisfactory 0- 639 U: Unsatisfactory Grade based on point scale * 400 points of your grade will come from a variety of areas including homework, class p articipation, study s kills, and a notebook.Notes about your grade: Notes about your grade Class participation and attendance will be used when determining your grade. You can get a lot of points by just coming to class and actively participating. Half of your points come from tests and the other half of y our points comes from in-class lessons, participation, and homework. Retests will be taken in the testing center in the main building on the first floor. You need a valid ID in order to retest.Strategies for Success: Strategies for Success Be an active learner: Ask questions and get help if you need it -your instructors and the math lab are great resources! Be a part of your group: T he members in your group are a valuable resource -working together will make learning easier and more enjoyable. Don’t miss class : Attendance in this class is crucial. If you must miss, contact your instructor. The whole structure of the class is designed around you being there.Strategies for Success: Strategies for Success Keep on task : D on’t fall behind or work too far ahead. If you finish an activity, help t he other members in your group . If you are not caught up, don’t waste your time. Attitude: Stay positive, keep an open mind, and have fun. Study: F or every hour you spend in class you should spend a couple of hours outside of class studying. Stay focused : Leave all distractions at home -put away electronic devices and don’t distract other students.Math Lab: Math Lab Another great resource you have to make your class more successful Math lab provides: Tutors to answer questions Learning aids and manipulatives InternetMath Lab: Math Lab Hours of Operation: M- Th 8:00 am - 9:30 pm F 8:00 am - 5:00 pm S 8:00 am - 3:30 pmSlide 11: Getting Started To get started you need to go to the bookstore and purchase a packet . Everything you will need to get started for this class can be found in your packet.
