Premium member Presentation Transcript Slide 1: Learning is Fun at UCP Brittany Weingart BrittanyWeingart@knights.ucf.edu April 10, 2011 EEX 4242Where I’ve been… : Where I’ve been… This semester I have been volunteering at a wonderful school called United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Central Florida. This school was started around 50 years ago by a group of parents in Central Florida, who began with a simple goal: offering hope to kids . (ucpfl.org) There are currently around 225 students, ranging from infant/toddler up to third grade , being served by UCP of Central Florida’s East Orange/Bailes Campus .Engagement Activities: Engagement Activities The community need I fulfilled was giving extra support in the classroom. I volunteered for 15 hours at UCP’s Florida’s East Orange/Bailes Campus, where I spent my time in the Preschool room. (5 visits, 3 hours each) Classroom Activities Included: Recess Weekly lesson/Story time Learning Centers Lunch NaptimeParticipant Demographics: Participant Demographics Approximately 12 students served Age 2-3 years Individuals with Disabilities Education Act states that IDEA’s purpose is to “assure that all handicapped children have available to them… a free and appropriate public education which emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their unique needs, to assure that the rights of handicapped children and their parents or guardians are protected, to assist States and localities to provide for the education of all handicapped children, and to asses and assure the effectiveness of efforts to educate handicapped children.
