Setting… Early spring 1946 at school. The setting is very important in this story because the school is some what the cause of the conflict.
Plot:
Plot Mildred is having a special lunch at school because of her religion. Yvette then decides then she will sneak into her friends lunch line so they can eat lunch together. (Quote) “As they had already planned, Yvette and Mildred went right up to the line where the Jewish children were filing up for lunch-trays.” Well things don’t go as plan because Yvette ends up getting caught and finds her self in a lot of trouble.
Characters:
Characters Mildred- M ildred is a Jew who's religion gets her best friend in trouble. Yvette- is the best friend of M ildred
Extras:
Extras The Climax happens when a teacher walks over to the girls and criticizes Yvette in front of the whole lunch room on why she has that lunch. Quote- This child,” the woman pointed to Yvette, “is eating lunch here with the Jewish children, and I don’t think she’s Jewish. She doesn’t—I’ve seen her before; she gets free lunch all right. But she looks like one of the—“ Hesitating , the woman went on, “She looks Spanish.” I believe the Theme is people shouldn't be divided because of their race or beliefs. Man vs. Society -These two young girls have to deal with the world not wanting them to have a friendship.
