The floats are pulled by tractors. Most parades have at least 15 floats. People who belong to the krewe ride on the floats. They throw beads, doubloons, cups, and trinkets to the crowd. Masks It is traditional to wear a mask on Mardi Gras Day. Wear one instead of a costume, or with a costume. For one day you can be anonymous. Many famous people come to New Orleans and mask because for one day because they can be truly be free. Masks can express your inner secretive personality. Did you ever want to be someone else? How about walking through a crowd of people and not one person knowing who you are? That kind of freedom is why people come to Mardi Gras. Masks (and costumes) are also used at the parades to get attention from the float rider so they will throw more stuff if they like your costume .

King Cake:

King Cake The King Cake is a coffee cake baked in a ring shape and glazed with a simple sugar icing, then sprinkled with gold, purple, and green colored sugar. Inside the King Cake, the baker has hidden a small plastic baby inside the cake. Whoever finds the baby in his or her slice of King Cake is said to be able to expect good luck in the coming year--and is expected to host the next King Cake party.
