The Monroe Doctrine : 

The Monroe Doctrine How and why were the United States separated from the rest of the world?

Do Now : 

Do Now Fred says that he always follows the Golden Rule—“Treat Others the Way You Want to be Treated.” But sometimes, Fred messes up! Below are a list of some things that Fred has done in the past few days. For each case, decide whether he has really followed the Golden Rule, and why? EXAMPLE: 1. Fred hits his brother in the face, even though Fred hates being hit. 2. Fred gives his friend a piece of candy, because he knows that he likes it when people give him candy. 3. Fred helps a friend with her homework, because he likes it when people help him. 4. Fred yells at his teacher, even though he hates being yelled at.

Notes : 

Notes 1. A “big rule” that people are supposed to follow is called a doctrine 2. Doctrines can be made up by: A. elected officials B. dictators C. bosses 3. If a doctrine is made up by an American President, it usually means that the country must follow what is said. Do what I say!!! This is my doctrine!!

4. A famous example of a doctrine was made by President Monroe way back in the year 1823!
