Objectives :Objectives Provide overview of the Health Metrics Network (HMN) and Performance of Routine Information Systems Management (PRISM) frameworks and toolsets Describe use of HMN and PRISM framework for creating and maintaining STANDARDS for Health Information Systems


HMN Framework :HMN Framework What it can do for you? Provide a comprehensive picture of all information health systems in a given countries Describe broadly strengths and weaknesses of each system Assist in setting priorities based on assessment


HMN Framework :HMN Framework Stewardship: policy & governance monitoring – special data collection HR: census, labour force surveys, administrative records Financing: household surveys, administrative records (budget, exp.), NHA, PER Information: draws upon all data sources Infrastructure / technology / services: service records, administrative records


HMN Findings in Latin American Countries :HMN Findings in Latin American Countries Large quantities of data collection and -very little analysis and generation of information -very little or no use of information for decision making Excessive financial demands on limited resources, Scarce human resource and technical capacity Poor HIS designs, little interaction between : -participating institutions -decision making levels Information systems that do not respond to the current and emerging health systems needs Donor driven vertical systems
