In the Beginning Gold was first discovered January 24, 1848 by James Marshall at Sutter's Mill in Coloma.
In May 1848, Sam Brannan, a storekeeper in Sutter's Creek, brandished a bottle filled with gold dust around San Francisco shouting 'Gold! Gold! Gold! 10/29/2010 Isaac 3
Population Increase :
Population Increase The dramatic population boom precipitated by the Gold Rush ensured California's early admittance into the Union, bypassing completely the territorial phase and becoming the 31st state in 1850.
