Skype Brief Company History : Brief Company History The company was founded by Paul Gilmartin in 1997, as an insulation business, he being the first to bring Bonded Polystyrene Bead to the Republic of Ireland. The nationwide company has its head offices and manufacturing plant in Galway, with offices and depots in Dublin, Belfast and Cork. In 2005 the company foresaw a downturn coming in the Irish Economy and diversified to LED lighting. This business is mainly European based, currently concentrating in Germany and Austria. The Gilmartin Group work with Knorr-Bremse on LED Rail Signalling Systems.
With just under 14,500 employees worldwide, Knorr – Bremse earned sales in 2009 of EUR 2.76 billion.
Knorr-Bremse employs approximately 3,500 personnel in Germany, including 120 trainees, at a total of six locations. In addition to group offices in Munich and its historic headquarters in Berlin, Knorr-Bremse operates a production facility in Aldersbach (Lower Bavaria), a development centre in Schwieberdingen (Württemberg) as well as sales centre in Langenfeld (North Rhine-Westphalia) and Hamburg. Great durability What is a Light Emitting Diode? : What is a Light Emitting Diode? LED operates in a solid state i.e. there are no movable parts or chemicals used to produce light.
The core product is the LED chip, and is manufactured in sterile conditions, similar to the manufacturer of computer chips
The two other important components, are the driver and the lens
Although there is nominal heat in an LED light, it is important for the longevity of the bulb, that the heat is dispersed properly, or it will degrade more quickly – this is vital for enclosed or high powered lights
The best bulbs, have a well designed heat sink – the heat sink is usually the frame of the bulb and is made from a heat conducting element, extending in fans or ribs from each of the conductive arms, heat is absorbed into the conductive element, fanned to the front and dispersed. The LED standard has been set by the major chip manufacturers as ‘’ the point at which the LED die only produces 70% of its original light output - this has been set as an average of 50,000 hours of usage.’’ Tests shown that at 100,000 hours [ at 8 hours per day usage this is 34 years] it will have only 50% of its original light output. hi-bays to office lighting, largely based in Asia.
