CROP PROTECTION MANAGEMENT :

CROP PROTECTION MANAGEMENT

Crop protection management in detail… :

Crop protection management in detail… Crop protection management is the branch of horticulture concerned with protecting crops from pests ,insects, weeds ,diseases and theft. It encompasses 1.Pesticide-based :approaches such as cover crops ,trap crops and beetle banks. 2.Barrier –based : approaches such as agro textiles and bird netting. 3.Animal psychology -based : approaches such as bird scarers. 4.Biotechnology – based : approaches such as plant breeding and genetic modification.

Cause of crop infection ,Pests :

Cause of crop infection ,Pests Field crops are infested with a variety of pests. A pest is any destructive organism which causes great economic loss by destroying crop plants or products obtained from them. These include bacteria weeds ,insects, rodents, fungi etc. If these pests are not controlled at appropriate time then they can damage the crops to the extent of 50% to 70 %.

Methods of controlling pests :

Methods of controlling pests There are various methods by which insects and diseases can be controlled .The most common effective method is pesticide and biocide which include insecticide , weedicide and fungicide. These help in removing weeds ,insects, mites, rodents , fungi , nematodes , bacteria and other pests.

Pests control measures also include: :

Pests control measures also include: Using resistant varieties Heat resistant variety Cold resistant variety

enemies in the crop field :

enemies in the crop field Begrada bugs aphids xanthium weed parthenium weed

Weed control measures :

Weed control measures Mechanical removal of weeds like hoeing . Preventive methods like seed bed preparation , timely sowing of crops , intercropping, crop rotation ,deep summer ploughing etc. summer ploughing timely sowing Crop rotation

STORAGE OF GRAINS :

STORAGE OF GRAINS FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR STORAGE LOSSES ARE: BIOTIC-Insects , rodents, fungi, mites, and bacteria. ABIOTIC-Inappropriate moisture and temperatures in the place of storage .

Impact of poor storage on food grains :

Impact of poor storage on food grains These factors may cause degradation in quality, loss in weight , poor germ inability , discolouration of produce ,all leading to POOR MARKETABILITY.

CONTROLLING POOR STORAGE :

CONTROLLING POOR STORAGE Preventive and control measures are used before grains are stored for future use. They include strict cleaning of the produce before storage ,proper drying of the produce first in sun and then in shade ,and fumigation using chemicals that can kill pests.
