2 2 SR&R Presentation The purpose of this presentation is to highlight items from the SR&R Handbook that you and your parents will receive. The Handbook contains complete information about all of the topics reviewed during this presentation.

When Are School Rules in Effect? :

Student Responsibilities and Rights :

Pledge of Allegiance and Minute of Silence : 

5 Pledge of Allegiance and Minute of Silence Non-participating students are expected to sit or stand silently during the Pledge and Minute of Silence. If you are in the hall, you must stop and stand still quietly during the Pledge. You may walk quietly during the minute of silence. Willful disruptions or interference will result in disciplinary action.

Academic Integrity : 

7 Academic Integrity No student will engage in the following unacceptable behaviors: Cheating Fraud Plagiarism

Honor Code and Cheating : 

Honor Code and Cheating A student can be disciplined for sending a text message with answers to a test or taking pictures of test questions. 8

9 Dress Code All students are expected to dress appropriately for a K-12 educational environment. Any clothing that interferes with or disrupts the educational environment is unacceptable.

10 Infractions for students not complying with the dress code shall result in disciplinary action by your administrator. Hats or head coverings are NOT permitted during the instructional day!(unless required for religious or medical purposes)

11 What types of clothing are NOT permitted? . Clothing with language or images that are vulgar, discriminatory, or obscene, or that promote illegal or violent conduct such as gang symbols or that contain threats is prohibited. . Clothing that exposes cleavage, private parts, the midriff, undergarments or is sexually provocative is also prohibited.

Student Assault : 

12 Student Assault Threatening or physically assaulting another student whether or not causing injury Up to 10 day OSS May recommend for expulsion May report to police

Assault on Staff : 

13 Assault on Staff Physical: Up to 10 day OSS Shall recommend for expulsion Automatic recommendation for expulsion if injury Report to police Threat: 1-10 day OSS Shall recommend expulsion Report to police Verbal abuse: 1-3 day OSS

MOB ASSAULT : 

14 MOB ASSAULT Each and every student who is part of the mob shall be held directly responsible for any assault committed by one or more members of the group. 10 days OSS and recommend for expulsion Report to police

Harassment and Bullying : 

15 Harassment and Bullying Harassment based on a person’s race, color, religion, national origin, personal or physical attributes disability, intellectual ability, matters pertaining to sexuality, including sexual orientation is prohibited. Any student who is subjected to physical or verbal harassment including bullying should report it immediately to a teacher, counselor, administrator, or other school official. Any student who observes such actions should report the incident immediately to a teacher, counselor, administrator, or other school official.

Hazing : 

16 Hazing Mistreating another student by recklessly or intentionally endangering the health or safety of the student in connection with or for the purpose of initiation, admission into an affiliation regardless of whether the student participated voluntarily in the activity. Shall result in disciplinary measures up to and including a 10 day OSS and recommendation for expulsion. Reported to Commonwealth of Virginia attorney.

Disruptive or Inappropriate Behavior : 

18 Disruptive or Inappropriate Behavior Disruption of the educational process will result in disciplinary actions at the discretion of the principal. Some examples are: Insubordination, defiance of authority of any teacher or staff member Fighting, play fighting, making threats, stalking, or intimidating including bullying Verbal, written, or gesturing vulgar, profane, or obscene language (curse words)

Communication Devices : 

19 Communication Devices ARE NOT PERMITTED DURING THE INSTRUCTIONAL DAY (7:20-2:05) Including: Beepers / Pagers Cell Phones Ipod Any device capable of receiving or transmitting audio, video, picture, or text messages They must be out of sight and turned off or they will be confiscated!.

The penalties for possession, smoking, or use of tobacco products in school buildings, on school grounds, or on school buses – even if 18 or older… :

Non-Prescription DrugsExamples: Advil, Aspirin, Tylenol, caffeine pills, Dramamine, cough syrup, over the counter medications :

These drugs must be kept in the clinic with proper forms. Distribution or sharing will result in a suspension to be determined by the principal. May result in a recommendation for expulsion.

PROPERTY VIOLATIONS : 

27 PROPERTY VIOLATIONS Damage, theft, attempted theft, vandalism, arson, threat or false threat to do damage/destroy school property Shall result in disciplinary action Reimbursement is required Police may be notified

Possession of a Statutory Weapon : 

28 Possession of a Statutory Weapon Shall result in a mandatory suspension for 10 days with a recommendation for expulsion for a period of not less than one year and it will be reported to the police.

Statutory weapons include: : 

29 Statutory weapons include: Pistol, revolver, missile propellant, ammunition, any dagger, bowie knife, switchblade knife, ballistic knife, other knife, machete, razor, slingshot, stun weapon, taser, starter gun, BB gun, paint gun, or any object used with the intention to threaten or harm.

Slide 30: 

30 Possession of a knife, no matter what length, will result in disciplinary consequences from suspension to a mandatory recommendation for expulsion for a period of not less than one year. All knives regardless of length, are not allowed in school.

What do I need to know about leaving school grounds? : 

You may NOT leave school grounds without permission. You are subject to be searched when you return. If parents allow you to leave, YOU MUST CHECK-OUT at the ATTENDANCE OFFICE. If you arrive to school late; YOU MUST CHECK-IN at the ATTENDANCE OFFICE. The Attendance Office is located by Entrance #1. 31 What do I need to know about leaving school grounds?
