Prewriting :

Prewriting : 

Prewriting Do not try to write a rough draft in this stage Give yourself time to think of ideas before you begin writing Thinking Maps are a great way to organize your thoughts

Thinking Maps : 

Thinking Maps Cats litterbox smaller Dogs loyal Outside walks playful pet

Drafting : 

Drafting Hand write your draft Skip a line on your paper to leave room for corrections Plan where to put research references within the paper

Revising : 

Revising Move the text around Read your paper out loud Get feedback from peers Add dialogue Find words that create a sharp mental picture. (imagery) Rewrite the lead to “hook” the reader

Revising : 

Revising Strengthen arguments Add details and examples Write a “Wow!” clincher Listen for the writer’s voice in the piece Combine sentences to make them sound better Check for good variety in sentence structure

Revising- sentence structure : 

Revising- sentence structure Try to make writing flow smoothly by combining simple sentences to form complex sentences Ex: The dog was asleep. The dog was dreaming. The dog was running in his sleep. Change to: The sleeping dog was running in stride to the action in his dream.

Editing : 

Editing Use the Harbrace to check for grammar and mechanics Have at least 2 peers read your paper Ask the teacher for suggestions

Publishing : 

Publishing Make a final Copy Post work for Viewing or Reading Submit work to newspapers Or magazines Turn in paper For a grade Publishing
