Behavioural Science in Modern Society (BSMS) MAIN FOCUSES Provides a comprehensive and holistic study of human behaviour in modern society Provides an interdisciplinary study of human behaviour Introduces positive psychology approaches that aim to study, and contribute to human strengths and virtues. Why do we study behavioral science? : 

Why do we study behavioral science? It’s a trend and a need; a recovering nation/city needs from behavioral science The Sept. 11 event in 2001 in the US; SARS in infected areas such as H.K., Beijing; Tsunami in December 04 & 05; Katrina in New Orleans in 2005; Avian Flu (bird flu) from 1997, warning from WHO since 2005; Snowy storms in Mainland China, Canada, USA in 2008 Most people are worrying about physical safety & well-being, anxious about future terrorist arracks, anxious about new infectious diseases (e.g., new SARS, different kinds of bird flu), Anxious about climatic changes. Many people start to question the meaning of their lives ADJUSTMENT to modern society (can change your behavior); Search for Health, Wellness, & Happiness

Why do we study behavioral science? : 

Why do we study behavioral science? Behavioral researchers pull together behavioral, psychological, & cognitive science knowledge and disseminate to social & public policy-makers e.g., Emergency personnel (human factors to help emergency workers move quickly, locating & treating the injured); Psychologists can improve government officials’ communication about public health; Psychologists know about managing stress, to help the public to handle trauma, disasters & recover after disasters Behavioural Science in Modern Society (BSMS): - Pull together views from applied psychologists, medical sociologists, behavioural economists, political scientists to help people in modern society to achieve Wellness & Happiness - Focus: involve many aspects of applied psychology, such as assessing psychosocial risk factors, developing behavioural interventions, change attitudes, values, behaviours…
