NAME OF WORK: Rehabilitation, Strength and four laning of Quazigund to Banihal section of NH-1A from Km 189.350 to km. 204.700 including 2 Tunnels of 0.69km & km 8.45km length on DBFOI(annuity) basis, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir NHDP-Phase II/BOT/II/J&K.
VALUE OF WORK: Rs 1987.00 Crores
CLIENT: National Highway Authority of India.
NAME OF THE AGENCY:M/s Navayuga – KPCL Consortium
Scope of work: :
Scope of work: The scope work includes preparation of detailed project report for 4-laning from km.188.00(Banihal) to km.288.73(Srinagar) section and of four bridges and flyover on Srinagar bypass (km. 286.00 to km.303.573)
The 8420 meter long tunnel T2 is located in the Pir Panjal mountain ranges approximately 10 km north of Banihal. The altitude of southern portal head wall is proposed to be located at Km 195.463 at where formation level is RL 1865.99 meter and main portal will be approximately at Km 195.467 with formation level RL 1867.05 meter while altitude of northern portal formation level will be at approximately 1790.584 meter at Km 203.883 meter. The tunnel passes through rock cover zone as high as up to 950 meter. The proposed tunnel is bi-directional single tube bored tunnel.

Geological Investgations: :
Geological Investgations: GEOLOGICAL MAPPING
Geological mapping of the area has been done for defining the main lithounits and examining their physical characteristics. The various units of rocks and the overlying soil overburden were delineated. The structural features including the spatial orientation of discontinuities, joints, fractures, faults etc. have been established for providing inputs for rock mass classification parameters. The geological setting and tectonic frame work of Pir panjal range in the area encompassing the alignment of the proposed two tunnels are characterized by folded structured of cambro – Triassic sequence of rocks. Rock outcrops were examined for selection of optimum alignment of the tunnels and their portal locations. The engineering geological mapping of the area included lithological distribution of the rock types, discontinuity analysis, joint pattern, spacing of joints, joint roughness etc. and their influence on the stability of roof and sidewalls of tunnels. Geological mapping, exploratory drilling, field and laboratory tests provided the inputs for rock mass characterization.
